Hello, Guys!

I have a late model of Beovision 5 with DVI module and problem with Coax SPDIF sound.

Following Setup:

1. Beovision 5 - Type 8946 SW.16

2. Popcorn Hour A-410 with Coax SPDIF output

3. DVI - HDMI connector and necessary cables

Problems:

During video films playback i don't have a sound.

All stereo sound tracks in movies does not play.

What i've tried:

1. Connect Coax SPDIF cable to Coax SPDIF port on right side of TV - Nothing

2. Connect Coax SPDIF cable to Coax SPDIF port on back side of TV (Input 1) - Works only DTS 5.1 tracks and only pair of front speakers.

3. Connect Coax SPDIF cable to Coax SPDIF port on back side of TV (Input 1) - Nothing

4. Tried to change all audio settings - PCM, digital/analogue etc - Nothing

5. Tried to connect DVD player beside Popcorn Media - The same situation

6. Only 1 setup case works - when stereo connected via SCART-RCA cable to AV input. For that input assigned DVI Module. Player works all sound in Stereo Mode in all speakers (in TV, front and Subwoofer)

Please, any ideas to fix my problem.

Gratefully thanks!

Unfortunately, I have 100% the same issue with 100% the same set-up. Also solved it via coax, but of course not too satisfactory as this prevents me from using surround.

I was told that the issue may be that the DVI standard back in the days of BV5 was brand new and not finalized / stable, so it may just not work.

I still hope that someone sees this thread and may have an idea for a solution.

Steve, can you specify your solution. Solved it via Coax... Explain, please

Sorry, this was confusing. I meant your 6th attempt that also worked for you. Unfortunately, this is not a real solution as I am limited to stereo.

Also hope someone comes up with a solution. Would really love to get surround working with my BV5.

To check is 5.1 works did you get a movie that has good rear sounds? Or did you try different SPEAKER 1 ... 5 modes on the Beo 4 remote? Changed sound to Speaker 2 in your setup? No idea about the Beovision 5, but some hints I learnt from setting up my 7 and BS3.... Did you check if a DVD will play 5.1 fine using Scart and Digital input?

I have a BC2 and that works without any issues.

Let me link to another thread provides more detail to the issue. I would really love to find a way to make this work, so hugely appreciate any help!

The spdif connector on the soundmodule of a BV5 (or bv7), will only respond to DD or DTS audiosignal.

So, you need to connect both analog and digital connections. With stereo it plays via scart and DD/DTS via spdif. The soundmodule automatically detects DD/DTS on the spdif and switches from analog to digital.

With a BV5, the upper rca (spdif) socket is used for the VTAPE scart and the lower rca for the AV scart.

Normally the DVI goes with the RCA and analog at the side.

Be aware that only Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 are supported and not the DTS-EX version which is often used with movies.

There is a newer AC3 software 3.01a which replaces the older 2.3/2.4 version. It should have special support for Apple TV, (digital stereo PCM). But I'm didn't get it working. But then again, I don't have an AppleTV.

If you're using a hdmi to DVI cable or adapter, then you set your video output (from a Popcornhour or other mediaplayer) to hdmi, max 720p or 1080i (if it/s a original mk4 BV5).

The soundsetting has to be set to spdif. Spdig doesn't support DTS-EX and other more recent sophisticated audio-compressions. Only Dolby digital and DTS in several variations (DD2.0, 2.1, 5.1 etc).. So you need to have a seperate COAX or optical digital out. In case of a optical output, you can with the use of a small optical to coax convertor, connect the mediaplayer to the BV5/7.

thanks, not sure I fully understand though. are you suggesting the audio signal to use directly from the popcornhour rather than from the hdmi-dvi converter?

Let me illustrate my converter. See link below. When connected via stereo-out to scart-input-at-BV, all works, but just stereo. When connecting via coaxial out to coaxial in at BV, it does not work.

Any thoughts?

Any more thoughts on above? Beobuddy appears to point to a solution, but not sure whether applicable to my setup. Thanks!
