Hi guys!

I've just watched an Auro 3D setup guide and they seem to recommend direct radiating speakers of the same model. That means in a B&O setup the only speakers that qualify are belab 14 and beolab 15. Any other one, especially with acoustic lenses such beo18, beo20 etc is a bad fit.

Can someone confirm if that's the case or I just got it wrong? I'm also wondering if it's the case for dobly atmos and DTS:X as well because afaik  the technology is quite similar except the number of speakers involved.

That's exaxtly what I was thinking right now but you can't place beo 17 in the ceiling. It also feels a waste that such great speakers (beo 18, 20, 5) are not

optimal for the best suround experience.

If the soundprocessor is good enough I would not think that the Beolab speakers with acoustic lens would be bad.

And the Beolab 17 would easily be put in the celling, it is a small closed cabin so do not take up much space.

When this is said, if you are going for a epic cinema experience with speaker everywhere I dont understand why you are looking into B&O.

There is a lot of brands there have focus on cinema, example could be MK Sound which is also Danish.

B&O it the elegant solution, and focus much on music.

Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence

Trust me: once this Atmos/Auro 3D thingy is more widespread available, then BnO will update their sound engine, and produce more speakers of the correct form factor and dispersion that will allow those who wish to go to 9.1; 12.1; etc., to do exactly that - by buying more bno speakers.

I for one, have a HT setup with BL5s, BV9, BL4s (side) and BL 6000 in a 7.1 set up. I am not for want at this time.Big Smile

I don't have a dedicated Cinema room so the speakers must also blend into the interior design(my living room) which seems a bit hard with MK Sound. Nevertheless thanks for the heads up! I wasn't aware that some speakers are better for movies than others(except the subwoofer).

I recall reading that the low frequency cutoff for the height speaker signals is 180 Hz.  Perhaps B & O can come up with a full-range powered speaker with appropriate equalization to get a smooth frequency response.

Given the BL 17s frequency response, it might be a little overkill in the deep bass.  However, I have thought of using it for height speakers as well.

While I'm think of Atmos for my system, I think I'll wait awhile.  I've read that there are few Atmos encoded discs so far.  Plus, my preamp doesn't have the proper sound protocols for it.

......and you would need a receiver/preprocessor with a lot of pre-out connections.

Did you already find one?

There have been several released with Atmos capability.  The Marantz AV8802 was chosen as Sound and Vision's product of the year.  There is also Yamaha's Aventage CX-A5100 and the Onkyo TX-NR838 AV receiver (the latter not for BeoLab speakers).  I think Integra has an Atmos capable model and there is also the Pioneer Elite SC-89 (receiver).

Hello,

i have done my setup with Marantz AV7702 mark II with

Beolab 18, Beolab 17, beolab 14 5.1 Beoplay S8, Beolab 8000, beolab 6000, Krk 12s Sub.

The sound is Just out of the world. I am sound engineer, works for bang & olufsen Australia :)

Dolby Atmos, DTS X and Auro 3D got all...lens does a good job to be honest. got more sweet spots.

By direct radiating they mean not bipolar or dipolar speakers, which were often used before Dolby Digital or DTS to create a more diffuse sound field. The ALT shouldn't matter.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
