I have a BM5/BS5 from 2009, on which I got replaced the motherboard about a month ago under warranty. I started looking a bit at the temperature of the BM5, and I found out that the temp often reaches 50 degrees celcius or high 40's. In the log, this triggers a warning and I think this turns on the fan shortly? I have setup the BM5 as a server, meaning it is not going to a complete off/sleep mode. The temp in my house is about 24-25 degrees.

I been wondering if this could lead to failure of harddisk og motherboard due to the high temperatures? Anyone have the same high temperatures as me, or is my fan not working properly?

Some of the log:

12-05-2015 05:52:27 Normal   Case:49°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:12:43 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:13:13 Normal   Case:49°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:15:15 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:16:16 Normal   Case:49°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:16:46 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:18:48 Normal   Case:49°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:19:18 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:22:41 Normal   Case:49°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 12:23:11 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 17:08:47 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:49°C

12-05-2015 20:37:14 Warning  Case:0°C Fan:  -1RPM Hdd:50°C

13-05-2015 10:33:54 Warning  Case:50°C Fan: 255RPM Hdd:50°C

Also find it weird why 13-05-2015 only has 1 warning on a very hot day in the house, when other days have 15-40 warnings!

Regards

Henrik

Henrik-

I realize your post is from some time ago, but I am very interested in your experience with the BM5 temperature in the past years. Mine exceeds 50c regularly (its placed in a cabinet with enough space around it, but the cabinet is not fully closed and not ventilated). Given how hot the BM5 gets I am getting a bit worried too.

Thanks for sharing,

Roberto

Living in Sydney with outside temps up to 40 Degrees, I have multiple times seen the BM5 be above 50 in my home, but until now not had a problem with it.

I just replaced the harddrive to a SSD today and I will monitor if that has an impact on the temp of BM5.

Thanks Beolion, yeah...rub it in...those outside temps sound blissful for a guy from Holland where rain, overcast and wind dominate...then again gives me more time to spend inside and listen to the beo.

Cheers, R

Hi Henrik

We have 22-23°C in the living room and the BM5 stands vertical and free on the warm floor. It runs as server, too. The case temp. never rises above 35°C!

But I have changed the HDD to SDD

Mind the airflow - the air enters from the rear and exhausts through the side - make sure these are not blocked, and its positioning doesn't go against this designed airflow.
