I quick way to test the BeoSound 8 is to connect a device via aux line input on the rear of the unit. If the dock connector is damaged/faulty it may be that the BeoSound 8 is simply not detecting the docked product.

I had the same problem with my Beosound 8 after having it stored away a few years. There was nothing. After docking an iPod nano it showed signs of live again after a few minutes. Seems to have s.th. to do with the dock connector!?Try it with an iPod/iPhone/iPad. Via Line-in my Beosound 8 didn't react to anything. After docking/charging the iPod I can use line-in again!
