After a move to a new apartment, my beloved Beogram 4004 has started acting very odd: the second you plug it in, it will begin spinning and the "B&O" logo on the arm illuminates. There's no way to make it stop spinning, except for unplugging it.
The control panel is virtually useless... The arm stays stationary in its 'off' position regardless of input. The " up-down " button seems to work (at least in the sense of it locking/unlocking), and the "33"/"45" buttons do seem to appropriately change rotation speed.
The unit was carefully walked up/down stairs (typical move-in stuff), but there was definitely not any major trauma or accident.
Prior to this, my 4004 has provided years of service. This is definitely a new thing. I will say that recently, the Linear Tracking arm has begun acting a little funny: it tracks beautifully for the first 3/4 of a record, but then stops moving left. The groove of the record causes the arm to bend left as it finishes out the record (surely not good for the stylus, I realize).
The 4004 is playing through a Beomaster 2400, which has always been paired with it, and has always worked well. The one difference is that I am now playing through a pair of Mirage speakers, which I have not used with this setup before.
Any ideas?
Thanks!Kevin
Hi kevin,
Just a thought:
Is it possible you kept pressing down the 'ON' or 'start' key on the controlboard while carrying the unit ?
it could be the spring contact under the 'on' key that makes permanent contact - worth checking out.
