Hi All,
Hoping for a little help and advice on a system I am recently purchased and set up.I have a beosound 9000 system set up with a pair of Penta Mk 2 Speakers. Has been set up since the day it arrived (Second hand, One owner, Good working condition with a sight problem to the 9000 glass door mechanism which was quickly fixed !
First is general question - I would like help with is understanding the "Input level" control switch on the two Penta speakers - From what I have worked out and read online I should have them set to level III on the switch if powering the pentad from a beosound 9000 - What I would love to know and hope someone could explain is exactly why this is? Are there any instances where the other setting would be more appropriate for my usage (Will never run anything through the speakers other than the beosound 9000 via either the CD player or the Aux source) In essence I'd really appreciate a quick overview of what that "input level" setting is really all about !! :)
The second question is more related to the set up I'm looking for in the living room.At the moment the Pentas are connected by two Mk2 powerlink cables, each running independently from the receiver to a speaker. Many thanks for your time, Jamil
Read online about the possibility of chaining the speakers - Receiver to Speaker1 - Speaker1 to Speaker2
Ideally if there is no loss in sound quality id prefer to chain the two speakers to reduce the amount of cabling, Any advice anyone has on any frequent chaining setup problems or issues I may have from doing this would be greatly appreciated.
When using the PL-input on the BeoLab Penta's the default setting is lll.
This corresponds with the output through the PowerLink connection.
It is about the sensivety of the amplifier input.
Daisy-chaining of PL's is no problem at all!
And welcome to the Beoworld Forum.

Hi Jamil,
Welcome to Beoworld! I would agree with MM, the "III" setting is always the one to use, this gives their full volume potential and the clearest sound. As Pentas are very powerful, if you use them with other speaker then you may want to move them to a lower setting so that they don't over-power the other speakers (I use Pentas with smaller Beolab 3000 speakers, so I have reduced the Pentas to the "II" setting).
Also of note is the Bass adjustment switch, this is very helpful to adjust the bass output of the speakers to the room size and positioning. There are guidelines in the manual about which setting to use, for you may find that you prefer the sound with the speakers set to a different bass level from the recommended position - that is perfectly fine!
As long as the total cable length to the farthest speaker is less than 40m, there should be no loss of sound quality from daisy-chaining the speakers. This helps to tidy up the cables. Please ensure that you always use fully-wired Powerlink mk.2 cables for your Penta speakers to give good sound quality and to work the displays:-
