There's a play going on that's clear as day: Big Music wants to destroy the Internet. Same play they've been at since the Internet happened.
Here’s my story:
Last week suddenly all official Belgium VRT Network radiostations disappears from Tune-In. As a Belgian citizen and fervent listener to public broadcasting I was astonished. Furthermore the Beosound Moment has become the only source in my home to listen to this broadcast channels. Now it becomes suddenly impossible to listen, and I had to get a transistor radio from beneath the dust for listening to my public broadcasting channels.
No big deal I thought, its just a temporary fault with the streams or servers at Tune-In. So I waited a day, two days, three days, but nothing develops to the good. Service was still down.
I crawled behind my pen and write a letter to the helpdesk at Tune-in, providing them with a list of working streams for the Belgium VRT Radionetwork. Surprisingly enough I get a very friendly letter back from Tune-In staff, telling me that they were aware of the problem and… Here’s part of the letter:
Hello Chris,
Thank you for contacting us.
If your concern is regarding radios stations that belong to VRT Belgium network, let me inform you that due to broadcaster request, all those stations are not longer available in our directory.
I apologize for this inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Cristina
TuneIn
This letter from Tune-In leaves me blank looking behind, and a sudden thought howled through my head.
Do I really have to connect my BS3200, now stored in the attic, back to my ML system? Is this really the way to go? Connecting an analog receiver back in to the chain? Thinking I have invested in a future proof digital modern receiver as the Beosound Moment is.
As a Belgian citizen I own the undeniable right to listen at our public radio, so I wrote a letter of complaint to the Belgium VRT Network.
Hereby expressing my displeasure about the impossibility to listen to any of their public stations on internet with a 2000 euro costing receiver. In short summary, I asked them the reason behind the removal and how long it would take before this case will be solved. If no answer I will put the case to our Belgian ‘Ombudsman’. That’s an official authority to investigate complains against maladministration, especially that of public authorities.
They wrote me back, less then a half hour later with a explanation. Here’s part of the Dutch letter translated to English:
Dear,
Thank you for your response to VRT.
VRT radio streams are no longer available. In itself VRT has no objection to the fact that our streams are provided by external actors (such as TuneIn), provided that this is done correctly and legally.
VRT is currently or in contact to quickly make again our streams available through sound systems (eg Sonos) that this has an impact. More information can be found on the following web page:
http://www.vrt.be/nieuws/2016/11/tijdelijk-ongemak-voor-gebruikers-streamingsdienst-sonos
VRT hopes that our streams are quickly lawfully TuneIn available.
We refer you as a digital listener like to refer to our own digital audio platforms. listen to digital and mobile via radioplus.be or via the mobile apps of our radio stations (in any application all VRT stations are also available). Also, through the websites of our radio stations get easy access to our streams.
Hoping you sufficient information.
With best regards,

I now added the given URL’s manually to Tune-In, so I’m capable again listening to the stations on the Moment. Although with some restrictions, there is no logo and its difficult to organise them. There is no good interaction between the Tune-in website and the Moment in adding manually radiostation streams.
Something stinks - is there a play going on here that's not been revealed?
I found the VRT letter very unsatisfying and I will write an official complaint to our Belgian ‘Ombudsman’.
The battle for internet radio is real big records want to shut them. I wonder how long will internet radio broadcast continue.
Streaming has an offline problem.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
These stations? I have no problem listening to them on my Bose SoundTouch Music System.
MediaBobNY: These stations? I have no problem listening to them on my Bose SoundTouch Music System.
Bose and some other well know brands are using Vtuner for internet radio.
It seems the Belgium VRT network has no problems with licensing or other with Vtuner, as it for sure has with TuneIn.
Perhaps its time for the B&O team to go the Vtuner way.
Ideally you should be able to choose between those yourself!

This sounds remarkably like B&Os issue with Netflix on the new TVs.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
I have a gutfeeling that this has to do with €€€€€€€€'s.. Or TuneIn was VRT to pay for having the steams in their app... Or VRT wants to have them to pay in order to have the steams... Once a certain marketshare has been reached everyone wants to have a piece of the money-pie.
(yes... still frustrated too about the BeoVision14-Netflix f*ckup)

Just found an explanation on a Media Magazine, take it for what its worth..
"TuneIn has plans to achieve revenue from the provision of radio streams. And there's the rub. The way that would happen encountered a "njet" of the VRT. Accordingly, the streams can not be distributed via TuneIn longer, with the result that the VRT streams from stations like Radio 1, Studio Brussel, MNM and Klara are no longer available on tens of thousands of devices."
BeoNut since '75
I had same trouble playing vrt radio stations on my A6. I also have sent a complaint email to VRT
Today I tried again and I noticed that Kara continuo and Rdaio 1 are back online. StudioBrussel is not yet available.
Back online for others as well?
Update:
VRT and TuneIn have worked out the case, received today this mail (translated by Google):
VRT streams are again available for listeners who listen to our offer via TuneIn. Without third-party advertising and within the framework VRT works. In audio systems such as Sonos, Samsung, Denon Heos, etc. that do TuneIn VRT streams are active again appeals for their offerings.
According to the radio manager Els Van de Sijpe keep our listeners our strong radio brands Radio 1, Radio 2, Klara Studio Brussel, MNM. VRT will therefore be present with its offer on all platforms that use our listeners in a correct way and within the framework VRT works. On that we have made with TuneIn agreements, and we are pleased that our offer now also replay through their platforms.
Obviously digital listeners can also visit our own digital platforms. listen to digital and mobile is always on radioplus.be or via the mobile apps of our radio stations (in any application all VRT stations are also available). Also, through the websites of our radio stations get easy access to our streams.
We hope you hereby sufficient information and wish you much listening pleasure.
