hello
i am new to beoworld i am a old school 57 and my years of lisinening to records was long gone but now i have regretted getting rid of my old albums but have recently inherited my brothers collection and so have been looking at b&o beograms which i love apart from the stylus's that can cost more than the decks anyway i have just bought a 4002 but it is missing the platter and may not work at all so I'm hoping its not a mistake but was hoping you might be able to tell me where i can source one and also what other models platters will fit? I would appreciate any help you can provide
thanks andreas

Hi, welcome to the Beoworld. The Beogram 4002 is a great turntable. Regarding the platter, first look underneath the turntable and check the sticker that shows the serial number. There will be a "Type" number there as well. There were several types of Beogram 4002 units and the platter can vary.

You can check out this thread for a bunch of information regarding the Beogram 400x series turntable. This page in the thread shows two types of platters.

Also post a picture of your Beogram if you can.

As far as finding a replacement platter, you should be able to find one without too much difficulty. They aren't always available but do come up on Ebay from time to time. The replacement will have to come from another Beogram 4002 of a similar type though. Beoworld also has a For Sale & Wanted section.

hi sonavor

thanks for your reply the type is 5525 and its actually a 4004 i haven't received it yet it looks like the platter sits on top of another one the seller said as it hasn't got a platter they couldn't test it so after looking at some of the other posts I'm feeling concerned that I've bit off more that i should but lets wait to see ? was hoping that the type of platter looks similar to others on other models and some of them go quite cheep on eBay so thought i could buy one just for the platter what do you think or are they specific to each type ?

i will keep checking both here and eBay but your help is much appreciated thanks

the dude andreas

Unfortunately, the Beogram 4004 platter is common only to the later 4002, 4004 and 6000 models with the DC motor. I imagine an 8000 or 6006 would fit but you might find the spindle is different. These decks were also cannibalised to make clocks so you will find it tricky. I have seen a 4002 fitted with a glass platter though with black lines on it to improve the record contact. If you are only playing 33rpm LPs , then you don't actually need the ribs anyway but a lot of the look of the platter is the look. I see no reason that you could not have a platter made though replicating the finish will be tricky. Maybe something custom could be interesting. If you are looking for a platter from another Beogram, remember many used a record weighing mechanism which involves a much bigger central cut out. I can measure the platter of my 4004 if that would be helpful.

You are welcome. The type of Beogram you have was very popular in the US and sold well so I think you should be able to find a used one. Types 5523 and 5525 are the most common I see here in the US.  As Peter mentioned, other Beogram turntables do not have a compatible platter. The only compatible Beogram turntables are the Beogram 4002 from Type 5513 and up along with the Beogram 4004 and 6000.  You really need an original platter or it just wouldn't be right. The black platter that is coming with the turntable is the sub=platter so at least it has that. Upgrade your membership on Beoworld to Silver and you can place want ads on the forum. There should be some spares floating around.

These are complex decks but there are quite a few threads describing fixing these decks on this site - the service manual is also available for silver and gold members!
