I recently opened dialogue with Toneabnehmer service as suggested on www.schallplattennadeln.de for retipping/repair of a pair of SP14 for my Beogram 1000. I got an Email back immediately saying that I should send the styluses and implying that he would get back to me with a quote.  The styluses were sent recorded delivery and were signed for in Germany on 25th November.  I heard nothing so I sent an EMail to www.tonabnehmerservice.de requesting an update. Nothing, so I sent another EMail requesting confirmation of delivery. Nothing.

This morning I enquired of whoever runs www.schallplattennadeln.de if they could shed some light on what was going on. Two hours later I get an invoice from www.tonabnehmerservice.de for 200 Euros for  completed restoration of the two styluses.

Has anyone done business with Toneabnehmer service ? I know that SchallPlattenNadeln seems to be well respected but I am frankly reluctant to part with 200 Euros to someone who doesn't communicate.

I'm going to write to them to get an explanation anyway but I would like to know if other people have had work done by them before I pay.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

I had my MMC2 renovated about 2 months ago at Tonabmerservice. Somewhat same experience. They are not good at emailing, but i got the invoice, payed and received the stylus rapidly after. So no problem.

Office: Beomaster 3000-2 with Beovox P45 (all in white)

Living room: Beomaster 7000 and Beogram 7000 with Beovox RL 7000 (all in white)

Kitchen: Beocenter 2300 with Beovox 4500 (not available in white :-(

I sent my MMC4 for repair from Scotland about two weeks ago, after first sending some pics to Herr Schulte; three days later he informed it had been repaired and sent me an invoice for 129 Euro, which I thought was great service.  I paid this by Paypal last Saturday, however I've yet to receive the cartridge..!

I'm not panicking though, as he appears to come well-recommended and I don't think he'd risk his reputation by behaving dishonourably for a few hundred euros. I suspect his business is a 'one-man band' and he'll probably get around to sending it soon enough - plus international shipping at Xmas time could be a plausible delay.

Anyway, I'll drop him an email on Monday just for my own peace of mind though, and update the forum on my own outcome.

Franz-Josef repaired an MMC5 for me. The repair was very quickly done - about 7 days after receiving it - and then 9 days from payment for the cartridge to arrive back with me, which seems very reasonable. Excellent work too. I'd recommend him.

Thanks Guys.

I wrote to Franz-Josef and received a rapid apology citing high Christmas demand. I shall pay the bill and update this thread accordingly.  It seems to be falling into place now and I feel a bit of a heel.

A quick update: MMC4 arrived by courier this morning, well packaged and ready to go...  Overall an excellent service.

Styluses returned really quickly and the difference in the sound is remarkable; I have an original needle which looks ok but the definition using the new styluses was a real surprise.

One fly in the ointment was that a small raised area on the armature support on one of the styluses prevented the pick-up from getting close enough to the armature. The sound as you might imagine was awful. The raised area was clearly caused by melting around one of the holes which presumably hold the fixings for the armature mount. I flattened it off with a 3mm drill bit, the pick-up inserted properly and everything was fine.  I've no idea if this was caused by Toneabnehmer or if it was pre-existing.

I'd certainly use them again.

I can only echo these experiences. I have a MMC 20EN and 20E repaired and both sound brilliant. The service was quick and efficient.

Really recommended.
