Has it ever been tried by anybody here in the forum to completely bypass the infrared signal to remote control a BeoLab 5? Those speakers (while using the digital sound transmission via SP/DIF and a non B&O sound system) have the option to be connected to each other with a so called sync-cable which apparently does transmit serial commands to switch the speaker on and off as well as to adjust its volume.Of course one feels tempted to completely give up infrared here and directly transmit the necessary signals from any computer or mobile device via this connection to the speaker by using e. g. an Ethernet to RS-232 adapter box and providing the (unknown to me) necessary commands.
I already removed all the LC-2 dimmers from our home and replaced them by Philips Hue/Living Whites products and am also currently experimenting with the JointSPACE command set for our Philips television set. The BeoLab 5 would be the ideal candidate for the next step …
