Hi

I have just bought a house that has various bits in one room. The little black boxes are on the celing and are touch sensitive and turn the lights on and off when you touch them. I cant find a remote nor can I get the wall controller to do anything. There ar eno speakers in the room that I can see.

I wondered if anyone could help me identify what these items are and what I might need to run them as I dont want to rip them out.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Hi and welcome to Beoworld,

The kit is all MCL (Master Control Link) equipment, which was used to distribute B&O AV around the house 2 generations ago (before Masterlink and the current Netlink.)

The top box is an MCL transceiver, used to receive (and transmit) IR signals from a B&O remote (BL1000/5000/7000 or Beo 4, amongst others)

The next box down is an MCL2A, used to connect passive speakers (the audio is distributed at 'speaker' rather than line level).

The black box at the bottom is an LC1 light controller which is clearly already wired to your lights but can also be controlled by the 'Light' control on the remotes listed earlier, and even from another room using the ability of the transceiver to relay IR transmissions.

Basically, to make use of the equipment you should be looking for an MCL compatible system such as BC9500 (my favourite!).

The thick wire that goes to the control box will probably go down to the main room and you may find a wire with two 3 pin plugs on it. This would plug into the speaker 2 sockets of the system and would allow remote control of the system in the second room as well as timer control. I have some o this system scattered around my house! It can also be made to work even with the new equipment!

I couldn't find the link yesterday but there is some useful technical advice here regarding MCL: https://www.beoworld.org/beotech/

If you join as a silver member you also get access to the very useful MCL handbook which will enable you to identify all components, and work out how to control your lights etc.

These will also work with the stacking systems 5500, 6500, and 7000. But they are not compatible with the 5000.
