Hi guys,

Ok, so I have two BeoSound Essence units downstairs in the comms area, that use existing speaker cables (powered by the BeoAmp 16) to run two ceiling speakers (one in each bathroom)(they are older type Beovox in ceiling units).

All works great.

However - I love the Essence on wall remotes and thought wow - wouldnt these be ideal for a bathroom. Relatively hardy, one touch for audio, rather than fishing out a phone or ipad to put on the radio or some tunes.

Then, of course once bought, it dawns on me that the (1st floor) bathrooms are too far from the essence units, which are safely tucked in a rack at the back of the house, to work!

Other than move the essence closer to the room, and figure out something, is there such a thing as a bluetooth 'relay' that will bounce the remotes signals over cable or similar to the unit?

TIA!

Stephen

You can extend the cable from IR-eye to Essence up to 100 m. Can't imagine that you bathrooms are so far away from the Essences location.

Installing the IR-eye in your bathrooms would give you the opportunity to use a Beoremote.

Many thanks!

I have Cat5 to one bathroom but not the other, any wireless options?

I presume I'll need to wall mount or tuck the IR eye somewhere adjacent to the remote?

Thanks again!

I'm afraid you are now asking to much: getting wireless over wireless control... You really have to install a Cat cable for the second bathroom. Smile

Place the IR-eye anywhere in the bathroom, within reach of your remote. You can install it on the wall, ceiling... there is also a kit available for installation in a wall.

If your using a Beo4 as a remote you have access to your Essences Radio with your favorite radio stations behind the numeric buttons, or Deezer... If using a Beoremote One, you can also activate and control Multiroom products linked to your Essences.

That's what i was afraid of! Thanks Chris!

They are just such a beautiful, elegant remote, it's a shame the essence has to be in relatively close proximity!

Do you think it would be possible to use the single Cat5 / 8 cores to the bathrooms (which are  back to back so I can cut through) and split that into two IR eyes?

Failing that I'm considering moving the two Essence units to the bathrooms ceilings, and using the BeoAMP 2 on each to power the ceiling speakers (which would then regain BT control)

You have 8 cores in the Cat cable, but you need 5 for one IR-eye. You could try to use the GND (ground) for both eyes but I would not trust this thoroughly... I would certainly not mix the ground wires to both Essences.

That would be an option or connect the Essences wirelessly to you system, the only problematic challenge is adding 240V power sockets in your ceiling. Or is there already a power socket for the Amps? If needed, you could also add wireless extenders nearby, if the now used wireless signal is not strong enough to reach your bathroom ceilings.

Hi,

don't give up too easy! ;-)

There are bluetooth repeaters available on the market. I've found this one from SMA: https://www.solar-electric.com/sma-btrep-in-bluetooth-repeater.html

Quite expensive as it's made for outdoor use with solar power systems and therefore very robust. Maybe these things work with the remote etc., too?
The technical data says Bluetooth range is up to 100m outdoors.

Could be worth a try or Bang & Olufsen could try it out with Beointegration - that would help all customers :-)
