Hi - I'm new to forum and have been trying to find out if I can play an old Beogram 1500 (1970ish) with 2 pin din speaker outputs through a Sonos Play 5 with aux in?
I would love to get this old record player connected so would be grateful for any help - thanks.
Do you mean the Beogram 1500 with the built in amplifier? If so, don't use the loudspeaker output but use the tape output as this will be at a constant level - this is at DIN level rather than line I believe but will be preferable to the amplified level from the speakers.
Peter
Thanks for the response.
Yes it is that Beogram 1500 - it is currently in original box with speakers at my mum's and I am hoping to collect it in a week or so. Was working ok a few years ago so hopefully still ok.
From what you are saying I should just need a 5 pin din at one end and a 3.5 jack at the other?
Yes, and you will be able to use the Beogram and speakers as well - the DIn to jack lead comes in three varieties - two just have one jack and one din and are directional - the other has two jacks so you have input and output - I would personally get that one as although you will not use the input jack, you are guaranteed a cable that will work!
Magic - thank you so much for your help - I'll let you know how it goes.
I picked up (jeez it's heavy) the Beogram 1500 this morning - perfect condition with no damage at all.
Powers up fine but running really slow - about 26rpm instead of 33rpm.
Stylus seems ok and getting decent sound out of both speakers as far as I can tell given the slow turntable ...
Common problem - the grease in the motor solidifies - to start with, simply leave it running in a warm room and come back to it. You may well find it has improved! Otherwise it needs the motor servicing which by all accounts requires boiling oil!!
Wow - left it running for about half an hour and now much better - I think at about 31/32 rpm - this is the first it's been running in over 20 years so will leave it running for a few hours and see if there is any further improvement.
Boiling oil? If it comes to that I might need to find a retro hi fi repair guy!
Also - I spoke to Steve at Sounds Heavenly re connecting to Sonos - very helpful - I will be ordering soon.
I am sure you have found there is a speed adjustment wheel - is yours an early or late model ? - the speed selector is black if a late one. These are really nice machines - not that powerful an amplifier but nicely made. Beocentral loves them!
Yes - was just reading the instruction manual and checking the strobe on the turntable - got it the right speed now (I think)
The speed adjustment is black - the guarantee certfificate shows my dad bought it in November 1971.
Thank you so much for your help - just need to buy the cable and the Sonos now 😀
