I can't seem to locate anything on beoplay.com that mentions if I am responsible for any duties or customs charges.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Answering my own question for future reference - Beoplay claims that they are billed directly from UPS for brokerage and duties.

Better double-check, a member from Canada posted this in the past: Online purchase nightmare

As a fellow Canadian, be totally sure that the brokerage & duties are actually paid. If it's not on your invoice (just shipping) then almost guaranteed you will be paying for any random amount UPS feels. Most online stores never bother with prepaid duties because of hassles of the carriers ignoring them come delivery. So the courier is the broker and submits whatever paperwork to customs plus some random fee.

If it was a very expensive item, you can do your own brokerage with customs which is usually a flat fee (~5$) plus depending on the item categorisation in their book, some amount of tax and or duties.

Canada Post if fair in this regard, usually just at most sales taxes apply. But couriers like UPS / Fedex can on top of that charge any brokerage fees they want on top of Canada Customs.

As a buyer and seller on Ebay for over 15 years, UPS is hands down the worst in this regard.

Hopefully B&O are different and do the customs & brokerage in advance to avoid any surprises.

I shipped from TX to Canada a BL/BM 5000 just after Xmas, USPS some USD 180.00, believing it would arrive with the Canada postal service, but they arrived with UPS and with a brokers fee, the USPS didnt mention to me that they work with UPS Canada for deliveries and poor Jeff had to pay for it.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Søren,

That's new for me, unless something has changed in the last month, all USPS packages enter Canada via Canada Post or CanPar. Very strange unless it was an exception due to christmas rush?

Of course if it's UPS than for sure brokerage for your buyer.Sad

An update - although I wasn't give an invoice with the package I received, I called the brokerage company and they will be sending me a (large $$) invoice in the near future.

I won't lie and say I'm not ticked off, because I am, but in the meantime I've contacted Beoplay to see what they say.

I will keep this thread updated.

One more update - Beoplay responded very quickly and asked that I pay the invoice, send them a copy, and they will refund me the money.
