OK,

I have a BC9500 working now with glass panel now firmly reattached. The next problem presents itself for you all to solve if you are up to the challenge?

I have a 5-pin DIN to 2 RCA connects linked between the BC9500 line-out DIN socket to the Essence MKII Line-in.

BeoSetup App. Played with all the line-in settings but I'm only getting sound through to the Essence when the BC9500 volume is set to maximum. Something is clearly wrong?

I don't want to push the Essence RJ45's speaker outputs to the Aux of the 9500 and then PL-out to the BL3's (did this with Playmaker and the sound is not as good/too warm).

I could try a 7-pin DIN from BC9500 PL out to Essence Line-in but that is a cable I don't have yet and If I can get away without it - that would be first prize.

Any ideas? All will be appreciated.

Thx 10

A couple of suggestions: (I have no experience with Essence, but lots with BC9500 and PM!)

- Which socket are you using on the BC9500?  I would use the TAPE2 or TV/AUX as both have fixed volume line out on pins 1 and 4.  I wouldn't use the LINE IN/OUT socket - just leave that with the bridge connector in place (it is meant for a equaliser loop).

- Are you sure that your DIN/RCA lead is an output rather than input?  The RCAs should be connected to pins 1&4 of the DIN, rather than pins 3&5 - the latter are inputs.  Check with a multimeter if you have one, or simply purchase a DIN to 4 RCA connected so that you can experiement.

- The fact that you are only getting sound when the BC volume is maximum suggests that your Essence is connected to the input rather than output of the BC9500, hence the sound that you do hear is simply crosstalk between input/output stages.

- Don't use the BC9500's PL connectors - they are definitely a volume controlled output, best used for Beolabs.

I hope this helps - good luck!

Mr 10Percent:

I don't have any problems with using my PM's RJ45 to BC's AUX, but I suppose that the tone and volume control stages of the BC could degrade the sound - is your BC95000 fine with other sources?  I suppose that the other advantage of your setup is that you can use the Essence as a stand-alone, rather than having to turn the BC on as well.

I will be interested to see if you get it working. If the auto-sense of the Essence LINE-IN input works, together with the auto-switch on of the Beolabs then it could be a sensible alternative that enables you to use the BC or Essence with the minimum of fuss.

EDIT:  With the PM/Essence connected to the LINE-OUT of the BC, you would no longer be able to control volume with the BC9500, of course, and the PM/Essence would have to provide the volume control in the system.  I couldn't live with this setup!
