I have a ground problem with my Beogram 8002.

I kind of, sort of had a bit of an issue previously when I grounded both my Beogram 8000 and Beogram 8002 to the same ground terminal on the pre-amp box, but I solved this by separating the two grounds, and grounding the Beogram 8002 to the bottom of my Beomaster 4500.

Well now I have a VERY bad hum which improves, let’s say 50% when connected to my new pre-amp box. The only thing that makes the hum go completely away is when I have the ground connection to the pre-amp box AND I hold the box in my hands.

My previous trick of grounding the Beogram 8002 to the Beomaster 4500 does nothing this time around.

Any ideas?

Jeff

I tried everything, shaking the ground cable, massaging the ground cable from one end to the other, pulling like mad at the point the cable enters the plastic housing that connects to the Beogram and everything I did made minute changes, but nothing I did made the hum go away, except holding the preamp in my hands.

Then I got the bright idea Smile to swap B&O cables as I have another 8000 series Beogram. Nada, absolutely no change, but at least I learned it is NOT the cable/ground wire.

Then I decided to try the ground on my original preamp and like magic, the hum went away.

What temporally swapping amps could possibly have to do with a brand-new pre-amp failure; I don’t know, but there is no arguing that changing the preamp box fixed the problem. I went so far as to turn the Beomaster 4500 up to 85 and at that level there is just the slightest HINT of a hum.

I am too skitterish to announce I fixed the problem, but it would appear I have.
