After discovering the stylus may hit the ribs of the platter, I adjusted the tonearm according to the manual to give the correct clearance. That is now OK.

Now I notice that the left/right movement of the tone arm towards the detector arm, which causes the sensor to track the record is not very free. What do I lubricate/adjust so the arm 'floats' freely on all axis?

It is not the pump/dropping up/down mechanism which is fine, it is the rotation of the arm towards the detector which is the sticky bit.

Thank you

I found the answer to my own question.

Because I had adjusted things, the 'paddle' held onto the base of the pickup arm with a circular clamp & screw was touching the lamp housing so I moved it up a bit and all is now well
