BeoLab 8000 with shrill / sharp sound

I have a set of BeoLab 8000 (Mark I), functioned very well for long.

Since a while one of the speakers has lost the balance in its sound spectrum. It produces a shrill / sharp sound. This is not like a high pitch tone, but the 'highs' sound dominant, shrill and sharp.

What I have checked:

• I have tested by putting audio signal via power link and via RCA; no difference.
• I have changed the tweeter for another (good) one; no difference.

Anyone has a suggestion what the cause could be, and what to do?
