Hi. I'm thinking of adding a beolab 2 to my 8000 speakers. It will be used pretty much exclusively for listening to orchestral music, opera, piano, organ  etc. The bass on the 8000's is OK but could do with a bit of beefing up. But will the beolab 2 add too much - make it perhaps a bit overblown? Advice welcome!

Many thanks

Andrew

Pretty sure you are better of with Beolab 11 for classical.

It is valentines day- BL 8000 and BL2 is a match in heaven. Think you will be disappointed with BL11.

I have had both. There is a fine bass management in BL2

I very much liked my BL2 + BL8000 combo.  It was one of my favorite B&O purchases.  Gave the BL8000s a much needed boost.  My BL2 is now paired with my BL1s, and I still enjoy it.  Spend a little time with the switches and placement, and, to me, it just disappears... except for the additional low end, and better mids/highs because the BL8000 isn't working so hard to produce the bass (make sure you connect them in series - Source -> BL2 -> BL8000s).

Agree with the above, I have a BL2 and BL8000 which are a great combo. Though indeed it does take quite the trail and error adjusting the settings and more so physically moving the BL2 for best placement. I have mine set on "wall" and 2 if I remember right.

As always if you happen to listen to lowend heavy music, a sub really clears up the midrange of the mains because the woofers don't have to work (extend) so hard. From your listening description though the difference might not be so apparent in my opinion.

totally aree. I guess, you can't go wrong with that combo (as long as your room is not tiny). I had this combo too and I think the bl8000 benefit a lot from the bl2.

and in my mind, it is also some kind of protection of the bl8000 (for too much movement of the drivers)...

regards

I had both. The BL2 was too strong to me. Then I have bought the BL11 and I pursue sen still with the BL8000. For me a good combination (room is also not so big). Of course all that is no comparison to my BL5/BL3 installation

The room is 10 feet tall but only about 14 square. Still a decent volume of space ...

it means connect your source to the BL2 first and then your BL2 to your 8000s.  In this way the BL2 will manage the bass and filter it out before passing the signal to the 8000s.

no, you don't. the "connect in series" set up is for stereo setups on a beosound, or for older surround setups on a beovision without separate subwoofer connection.

Beolab 2 purchased - should arrive in about a week. I do hope it sounds as good as I'm hoping! I was disappointed with my pentavox with the beomaster 7000. Years ago I had a beomaster 5500 with pentagon and I'm sure they sounded way better - the mid range sounds sort of vacant /muffled with the 7000? Anyway, very pleased with the beolab 8000 and hoping the beolab 2 will add to the experience.

Congratulations! Let us know how you like it. Remember, as others have pointed out, connect your 8000s to the Lab2, and the Lab2 to your source. It's all in the Lab 2 manual.
