Hi there,

I have thought of buying Beosound Essence system for streaming, but have a couple of questions on mind:

- if you don't want to use B&O speakers or amp, is it possible to hook the Essence hideaway box in non-BO ampifier, e.g. Sony dolby amp or ordinary samsung stereo amplifier?

- can this be done e.g. With RJ45 - RCA cables or can you even have RJ45 to ordinary speaker terminals cable? Is amp needed at all?

Hopefully would get some good hints, all the help appreciated!

best

Hi Tavast,

The two Essence outputs are for B&O amplified speakers.

Each send both right and left signals, plus triggering. I don't know if/how an ordinary amplifier is able to manage this...

Similar to the PL-outputs on the Playmaker, they (only one needed) can be used to feed an external amp.

The output has to be set to 'line-out', which - if my memory serves me well - can be done in the BeoMusic app.

The volumen control is then done in the external amp.

The cable (PL/RJ45 to RCA) can be bought from a B&O dealer - or via Steve at Sounds Heavenly.

I see, I reckon the ordinary active speakers wouldn't do either..?

thank you for help! Anyone else with info, also very interested to hear.

I guess you by 'ordinary active speakers' mean not BeoLabs, but active speakers/speakers with a built-in amp.

As long as these have a volumen control, you should be fine.

Yeah, that is what I meant.

So, to sum it up, either external amp (with rj45 to rca cable) or active speaker with its own volume control ( with similar cable for example) can be used as an output of beosound essence?

ps. I think they have a bundle with some speakers now beosound 3 and 17 but it is pricey and I don't know how to utilise my existing equipment after buying a bundle.

many thanks MM :-)

Oh, one more thing: are you still able to use the remote volume ctrl wheel of essence, do you happen to know?

NO!

All volumen control would be done in the amp, since the Essence-box is outputting a fixed line signal.

You could - however - connect it without the fixed line out setting.

But you would have to fiddle a bit with the volumen control of the amp to find the right level - and leave it there!!!

Only testing will show how good this works in daily use.

If you should decide for a bundle with the BeoLab's - and your existing equipment has a line-out connection, you could use this for connecting to the line-in port of the Essence-box.

This way you could hear the sources from your existing gear through the Essence/BeoLabs.

@Tavast The information given is false. The Essence and Playmaker are by default variable audio players for the pure fact that they connect to amplified speakers that would be at full volume if not connected to a variable audio source to control it. You can buy the Essence and the RJ>RCA cable, then connect from the PL output to an open Auxilary input of your receiver and your Essence remote will control intial volume of the Essence to the ordinary amplifier. There will be two volume controls but it will work just fine. Either turn the amp up a bit and control from the Essence or tune it to fixed and control from the amplifer..... Takes the fun out of the Essence on the later of the two methods though. Smile

Will most probably try that, have been struggling to get my streaming in order and have to say that I like the idea of the essence. Also been checking Sonos and other alternatives but b&o has that something..!

Thanks beomegaMan!

Thanks both of you guys for the info,  I am getting the Essence with the wall ctrl and the option to get speakers bundle and more wheel ctrls later also with dscount, so I keep you updated how everything goes. I used to work with Av stuff, crestron etc, so it is interesting to get back to the scene in a way! They deliver next week so I am spotting fine places for controls etc.!

😃

one more question, probably an easy one, do older Beolab6000 speakers work with Essence. What kind of cable connection beolab6000 has?

I have a friend who would sell an immaculate pair of these but alas, I am a beginner with B&O ..

all the best

Every active Beospeakers work with BeoSound Essence.

Just buy Powerlink / RJ45 cables to drive your BeoLab 6000.

Simply and Easy with B&O Yes - thumbs up

I am really bugging you guys now, but I promise to send photos and help with Essence experience! So, one more question, I have two beolab 6000's so can I still hook up the beolab 11 subwoofer with essence? E.g. Are beolab 6000's intercoonectable?

cheers

Sure - just connect the BL6000 to the output(s) of the BL11.

Have a look at the userguide at the B&O homepage - Costumerservice - Product Support.

Yes. And my earlier system is samsung amp, pretty small, with two cambridge audio speakers, and samsung subwoofer, nothing very special, giving okay sound but slight improvement would not be bad..

Hi,

my choice eventually was Beolab 6000 pair and Beolab 11, which I will hook up with the Essence.

I let you know how it went by when all is cabled and playing sweet 🐣😙

IMHO any B&O Powerlink connection can be turned into a power-amp input signal and if needed trigger signal. In which the B&O Powerlink source controls the volume and if trigger is possible the switch on/off of the power amp.

Substitute power-amp with active speaker if desired.

It is just a matter of getting the right cable, maybe and some resistors and soldering for the trigger.

Hi there

ive got the essence pl1 connected to my marantz sr6011 cd input but no sound is getting to the avr

you mentioned setting the essence to line out mode via the B&O app but I can't see that option. Can you give any more details on how to get the essence line out working? Searched on web and not found any references to it

Thanks!
