Considering making my beolab 5's wireless, and want the simplest possible solution.

Will this work: Chromecast Audio -> Transmitter 1 - Wireless to BL5's ?

I would need:

- Transmitter 1

- 2 x Reciever 1's

- Chromecast Audio device

Will i need to use a remote to control volume and/or turn speakers on/off?

Thanks for your help!

Hi davelarue,

B&O's official view is that Transmitter 1/Receiver 1 won't work with Beolab 5, as these speakers need data to activate them when in Powerlink mode.  However, if you are willing to use a B&O remote to power on the speakers before use and to put them into Line mode instead of Powerlink mode, then you CAN use them wirelessly with the Chromecast Audio as follows:-

Chromecast Audio to Transmitter 1 (via RCA inputs on transmitter): http://soundsheavenly.com/hifi-av/112--trs-2rca-.html

For each of the speakers, please use one of these cables from the Receiver 1 to the Beolab 5 Line input (only one RC Aplug is used on each cable): http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/65-rj45-powerlink-compatible-to-twin-phono-cable-output-from-new-bo-devices-to-amps-receivers-etc.html

Please add a Sync cable between the two speakers to keep their volume levels matched: http://soundsheavenly.com/beolab-5-and-beolab-90/41--sync-beolab-5-.html

Volume control can then be via the Chromecast app, or the B&O remote.  Either way, the B&O remote is needed to power the speakers on and off.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Interesting Steve. I would thought that the 'new style' rj45 PL on Transmitter, Essence and Moment also output PL data as in theory they're wired for it? Indeed there are few loudspeakers in their lineup that make use of it.

Have to agree with Steve, run them in "line" mode and even better run a digital connection to them..

David in my opinion never mind WISA, it uses the same unii band as 5.0ghz wifi. So it can have just as many issues with overlapping channels as 2.4 does. In addition that explains why the Moment doesn't use 5.0ghz band because WISA uses the same 'airspace' as 5.0 wifi. Which means it's stuck using old 2.4 band with all its issues.

Plus you've got one of the few b&o sets that accept direct digital with volume control!

Hi Steve and Dave,

Thanks for your detailed respons:) If synch cables are needed, then the speakers won't be wireless, so i don't see the point.

Nuts.

B&O: Please make a simple gadget that fits in the back of BL5's and solve all our problems :-) We shouldn't need to buy new speakers to make the wireless.

Probably a wild idea on a Friday afternoon: can't you connect a CCA to each BL5, connect them to the speakers with the CCA digital out. Then group the two CCA's into 1 speaker group in the Google Home app, and stream your music to this group.

Would this work? It certainly would be very minimalistic!

Great idea. But, then the sound would be mono?

I guess this could work! The sound wouldn't be 'mono',. because you need to set the switch to L or R on both speakers.
You still would need a 'sync' cable between both BL5's to sync te volume though....
