My beolink amp that is connected to a passive kit and drives some speakers has given up as has the volume control on my BM6000 (awaiting drive belt and bits) So I am wondering if I attached a Linn LK85 power amp to the powelink outputs of a Beolink Active (linked into the rest of the system) if teh sound quality would actually be better than the B&O Passive Amp that I was using? According to the spec the lin autosenses a signal and gets great reviews - has anyone tried using another amp instead of the beolink amp? It will be driving M100's for the moment.

Sounds promising and I see no reason why not. The Beolink amp is really not bad though.

Hi Andrew,

Yes, that will work very well, the outputs of the Active are well matched to power amps with unbalanced RCA inputs like the Linn LK85.  You just need this cable to link the Active to the power amp:-

Kind regards, Steve.

The Linn LK 85 is indeed a very good amp, but for its price I would go for a LK140. Sound quality is excellent and it would give you some more punch on the M100s. This would be a serious step up from the BL amp.

The LK 140 sounded fuller at moderate to high volume. At volumes that I could really "feel", the LK 85 starting to sound hollow, the LK140 kept pumping.

Hi, thanks, yes the Beolab amp is good but as it has blown I may as well look to see if I can improve it - I'll see if I can get an LK140 - will order the cable from steve too. Thanks again - will report back once I have it in place.

Hi

I made very good experiences with IcePower 50ASX2 Amps and also with Tripath TA2022 modules from audiophonics in France. These are connected to CX100, CX50 and P45 Speakers. The IcePower Modules seem to be a little more robust than the Tripaths and are easy to integrate. For the M100's i suggest at least 125ASX2 Amps which are available on the market from different sources (as modules or as complete amps). With the IcePower Amps you drive your passive Beovoxes with almost the same amps you find in quite expensive Beolab's and they are prepared for Powerlink input.

As Peter already mentioned: Perhaps you should also consider a repair of your Beolink Passiv, as these sound already rather good.

Good luck and best regards

David

Hi,many thanks for all the advice - I went with the Linn LK140 which arrived this morning and sounds fantastic with the M100's via Beolink Active (thanks to Steve for the lead). Big improvement and very similar to the BM6000 when that is working properly.

Will get the passive repaired as it is very good and I am going to use it via a Beolink Active with S45-2's in in my kitchen. Really enjoy the sound from the older speakers and the BLpassive amp will be perfect for that application.

The LK140 does sound more fuller with better and more controlled bass with the M100's and I could definetely recommend as an upgrade - it as the advantage of autosensing a signal from the BLActive and switching off after 30 minutes if there is no signal.

Anyway, all has ended well and thanks again for all your advice - it's invaluable when thinking about what to do next.
