I have a vintage 8002 with an mmc2. Last week it performed perfectly. Today, I touched "play". The tone arm moved to the edge of the LP and then returned to it's resting place. I tried several times. It refused to move past the LP edge.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Hi Tucsonjeff and welcome to the Beoworld forum. If the Beogram has never been restored then the thirty plus year old machine is way overdue. Is this a new turntable acquisition for you or have you owned it for a while? If you try pressing Play then immediately stop the arm (using the << < or >> > buttons), can you then advance the arm manually?
There is a lamp with two photo-resistor sensors in the Beogram keypad assembly that can cause problems. There are also sensors for the tangential arm transport assembly that could be a problem as well. Those type of things are not the type of repairs anyone should try unless they are good at electronic repairing though. Also, to get to the necessary things to check you have to be very careful. Opening up the deck for repair isn't a good idea if you don't have proper instruction. Here is a thread I posted a number of years ago. That Beogram 8002 was one of my first projects here on the forum so it shows what kind of things a person can run into in restoring one of these units. That Beogram is still working great.
