Hello, I just wonder if anyone here has connected a couple of Beolab 20 via Toslink to an Airport Express? In that case what is the experience? Would the volume level be adjustable from the IOS unit? What about sound quality? Will the Toslink connection put the loudspeakers in standby when not used and put them on when used?

Best regards

I use GoogleCast device rather than an AE - and yes, speakers turn in and off in step with the source starting to play or stopping the play.

Volume is adjustable from iPhone but you mus keep it quite "low" as it is very easy to have BL20s SHOUTING rather than singing.

Quality is good.

Thanks. Sounds good. I will try a chrome cast solution when I receive the speakers and then later I think I will add an Beosound Core or an updated Moment.

The google audio puck is cheap enough that you will barely feel any pain if you decide you don't like it !

Just received two Beolab 20 today and has connect them via WISA to an Beolab Transmitter 1 that is connected to an Google Cast via Toslink. Works really good both with Spotify and Deezer and with Deezer I also get tone control. SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Congratulation for your new Beolabs Thumbs Up

You can also try TuneIn for the radio, DS Audio (if you have a Synology NAS) and other Android apps...

Connected the Beolab 20 yesterday via wisa to a Beosound Moment. The improvement of sound quality is impressive compared to the ChromeCast-toslink-Beolab transmitter-Beolab 20 solution. Will stay with the Moment solution. With the Moment I also get tone control and control of the left and right speakers and much more stability than the ChromeCast solution.Big Smile

That's interesting !

Did you play the same exact song ?

Did you also compare with a direct connection of the Chromecast via Toslink to the BL20s (i.e. without transmitter) ?

Yes same Coldplay songs. Also tried direct Toslink connection between speakers and ChromeCast but same result as with the transmitter. Much cleaner and more deep in the sound with the Moment. The Beolabs 20 in this way is fantastic speakers.

I used Deezer fee

Coldplay, A sky full of Stars and Viva la Vida.

With ChromeCast it did not feel as harmonized as with the Moment. More like, now it's time to deliver bass, now it's time to del live tweeter etc

Listening to Coldplay (as below) > Deezer fee > Essence > powerlink > BeoLab 20

Can't say I am experiencing the -ive effect you described

I'll try my GoogleCast optical connection later

With their 2012 Live ...

I suppose your Essence do the work with the sound simular like the Moment. And I also suppose you get tone control with the Essence too.
