I was given a non-working Beosound 3 (Type 2720). Attached was a note that it had been looked at in a service shop and diagnosed as "Keyboard needs replacing, couldn't source parts".

Without the power supply it does absolutely nothing. So probably the battery is dead (or flat for now).

When I connect the power supply, the standby dot does not come up on the display. I get an audible beep from all keys on the top (which sounds like the keys are working? Perhaps just the volume ring was bad?). The only button that does anything (apart from the beeps) is A.MEM: the display shows A for a moment, then LOAD. I have tried couple of SD cards (FAT32, smaller than 2GB) with MP3 files in a directory on the root. Also I tried the card that works in my Beosound 2, same thing.

I opened the bottom cover and had a quick peek inside but nothing visibly amiss. Didn't take it apart any further for now.

I can access the service mode as described in the service manual and it shows the firmware version and counters etc. If I exit the service mode I do get the standby dot, but otherwise it doesn't work any better than before.

Any ideas? I am now leaving the unit plugged in for a while to try if it takes any charge...
