I have my beogram 8002 in for repairs and recap. The repair person has hit a problem he can't resolve. When playing and push stop sometimes the arm raises and begins returning and stops. You then have to push return several times to get all the way back. This is also happening at the end of playing an album on auto return. Any idea why this may be happening?

Another thing to check are the forward and reverse LDRs (sensors and lamp). Do the fast forward and reverse buttons work as they should? Does the return problem occur when you don't use Play? In other words, without a record on the platter can you navigate the arm forward and reverse as expected (plus utilize Stop) in that scenario? If the forward and reverse sensors are bad or not adjusted correctly you can get faults like you describe.
You can also have strange behavior with faulty board connectors and traces. I had a Beogram 8002 that was working perfectly until intermittently not detecting a record and going to the center and stopping (only because it couldn't physically go any further). I noticed that when that happened the arm detector lamp was not working. The problem turned out to be a faulty board connector for those signals.
There are quite a few things that can cause faults so you just have to go through everything carefully and allow plenty of time to test out the repair/restoration.
I picked it up and brought it home. When I >>> <<< it moves the arm but it seems like it is struggling at times. When it is cold just plugged in Stop, Pause, and end of play only returns 1/2" each time i push the button then arrow goes out and arm stops. the arrow buttons always work but like i said seems like it struggles a bit. The tech didn't realize there was a large capacitor in the box to the right of the tonearm and also during <<<>>> back it must have blown a fuse because it went dead. I am taking it back to the shop tomorrow again for the large capacitor replacement. Can anyone tell me if that capacitor could be the culprit and does it affect the worm gear motor that moves the arms? Also the two arms are not level not even close and i found a link that showed the adjustment underneath to make them level. I am going to ask him to address that also as the sensor arm is 2 mm lower than the tonearm.
