I have side by side tested many options from original, to various rebuilds, to soundsmith. To my ears, the best quality for cost is the contact line stylus on a sapphire cantilever from the eBay seller pickupservicedk, Mr Nielsen.

I have even used this cartridge with an adapter on a non-B&O tonearm and turntable suited to high compliance cartridges and found it sounds better than a couple other similar priced high compliance cartridges (and there aren't very many high compliance cartridges being made anymore for).

When I was restoring and selling type 59xx turntables I always asked Axel to restore MMC2's to as near as possible their original specification. (Line contact diamond/sapphire cantilever)

I never had any complaints and demos went like a charm.

I have also used Axel, but actually now it is his long time student Franz-Josef Schulte who has taken over the B&O cartridges from Alex. He has been doing all B&O pickups for a long time anyway, so the service is still top of the line and 100% perfect.

However, last I heard, he is very very busy right now because of the revival of vinyls :)
