I recently upgraded from a BeoSystem 1 to a BeoSystem 3 for my BeoVision 4-42 (D7 panel) that I've had for years. I thought it was time for the sound and connection update. However, my BeoVision 4 lacked the DVI connection. I had hoped that I might be able to get video using an HDFury DVI to VGA converter that I've had laying around unused for years. The converter also strips the HDCP. I was disappointed and frustrated to find that I could not get it to work. No picture at all.

Weighing the cost of buying the DVI update kit (if it's even still available) and a service call from a B&O technician, I was resigned to throw the BeoVision in a dumpster and buy a new non-B&O TV as a replacement. If figured that the BeoVision just was not worth the cost compared to how inexpensive new TVs are. At the last minute, I found a Panasonic remote and tried pressing the source button a couple of times. It worked! All it took was changing the input of the panel. The panel even remembered the correct input when I turned it off and back on.

I was blown away by the improvement of the picture. It's stunning. I actually checked online to see if the BeoVision 4-42 was 1080p. Nope, still just 720. Yet, the picture looks better than most 1080p TVs that I've seen. I hadn't realized that the BeoSystem 3 would improve the video processing so much. I was so glad to be able to give new life to this BeoVision. With the brushed aluminum frame flanked by gunmetal grey BeoLab 4000 and BeoLab 7-1 speakers, it looks great on the dark grey wall.

I just wanted to pass along the tip that a DVI to VGA converter will indeed work if you lack the DVI input. You just have to switch to the correct input on the panel.
