Having got my 1700 system up and running again after 30 years in the attic, I find that the Beogram 1700 needs a new stylus.  Normally no problem, but B and O designed their own special cartridge for the 1700 and a replacement is now (so I am told) is only available from the US as a remade item for over 600 USD!  Am thinking of buying a different deck - possibly tangential with a much cheaper cartridge.  Anyone done this and had problems or otherwise?

Common issue - get your existing cartridge retipped - a number of companies do it. They can replace the entire cantilever so that you can even upgrade the cartridge for far less money than a new one. All B&O decks use only B&O cartridges. You can use a different make of turntable of course but will need an adaptor to get it attached to the BM1700.

Thanks, Peter for the rapid response.  Do you know of any “retipper” in th UK?
