I was offered an used Beosound 9000 MK III which has a red power on/off button. I understand that this red power button only appeared on MK 1 and possibly on MK II only. The shop told me that the red power button re-appeared on some MK III items. Is this true? How can I confirm the item offered to me is a genuine MK III? The label adhered to the item offered to me appears to have a serial number corresponding to a MK III but I doubt it's a fake lable. Thanks a lot for your help.
Yes, the red button did re-appear on the Mk3 late in the production cycle.
This was done to comply with an EU directive that some form of electrical isolation had to be provided.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
I sold an Mk3 unit on ebay, and the buyer opened a case because he claimed it was not an Mk3 because of the red button. The serial stated it was an Mk3.
The unit was sold as spare/parts repair because the cd´s was skipping. When he got it he claimed that the door engine was weak. i checked it before shipping, and I know for a fact it was working.
In the end eBay took 120euros from me and gave to him.
I should see if I can re-open the case and get my money back.
What was the Type number? This is a better indicator of Mk # than serial number, unless the serial number indicated a production date of around 2001 or newer, in which case it IS Mk III. And just because the door opens smoothly when it's on it's floor stand (for example) doesn't mean it will open when it's flat on its back. More effort required for this position.
Just got an email from the buyer, who paid a whopping 600€ to have it repaired. Feel really sorry for the guy :( I never sell stuff I know don´t work, but I never thought it would be that expensive to have it repaired. I suspect that the repair shop ripped him off.
How much did he pay for it after the 120 euro refund?

hi
I'm checking some old posts...and i can not beleve that he pay 600€ for a 2€ spare part and 20 minutes of work.
Did the same repair last week and i can say that it's 20 minute of work and did it for first time.
Pat:Don’t forget they have replaced CD mech too, which is bit more than 2 Euros. Also maybe something else.
ups ..yes ...sorry .. :(
There are some mk3 who have the red button, that's true.
