These are the very same pair that appear on the product pages of both Beoworld and Beocentral!

Formally owned by Peter (moderator of this forum), I have owned them for the last 7 years. I used them in a slightly unusual system - Beocentre 2300 and a Quad 405-2 amplifier and they sounded, well, perfect. I haven't used them for a while as we downsized and SHMBO said they were to big in the new house...

When Peter owned them he had them professionally refurbished by a company called  Recone that unfortunately don't exist anymore. They replaced the foam surrounds with rubber ones, so they're never going to rot again. I have the frequency response graph that Recone produced after the work was done. Peter told me that they had told him the graph was as flat (ie perfect) as they had ever seen from a speaker. I'm not going to describe their sound as its so subjective. Suffice to say they just sound "right" .

I've since spent a fair bit of money on them, having the cabinets professionally French polished and the stands professionally repainted in their original colour. They look like new. The frets however need some work doing that I've been putting off and putting off and now SHMBO says they've got to go.. Some of the pegs on the frets have broken off and need repairing / replacing. The frets will attach to the speakers, but they're hanging on by their fingernails! There are threads on the old forum that show how this can be done with lots of photos, but I'm so hamfisted I'm basically too frightened to try, for fear of damaging them. The fret cloth is in good condition but is quite dusty. They might come up like new with a very gentle wash (again there are threads on how to do this but the cloth might well need replacing). Someone with the right tools and skill could easily make the frets look like the rest of the speakers - like new. Or you could, like I did, use them without the frets as I think they look awesome naked!

I feel like I'm on the Antiques Roadshow now... "So, what price do we put on these?".... Well, these really are a very special pair of speakers with great provenance that have given immense enjoyment and I will be a bit tearful when they go... A pair went last week on eBay for £620 and they'd had some of their drivers replaced with non B&O drivers!! Goodness knows what they sounded like, but they sure weren't original! I'm willing to let mine go for only slightly more, £700, as the speakers themselves are far better than the ones sold on eBay, but there's some (not expensive) work to do on the frets.

The speakers are in Nottingham and I'd be more than happy to demonstrate them. I'm also happy to deliver anywhere mainland UK for the cost of the diesel.

I can't seem to be able to upload photos....Email me if you'd like me to email you some.

Cheers

Hi Nigel,

Re: "SHMBO says they've got to go"

Should the acronym not be SWMBO?

.....unless of course it stands for

She Has My Balls Officially  ;-)

These really are superb speakers - they sound great and if necessary you can use them as living quarters! Recone were most impressed - this was the company that were part of Richard Allan who had the license to manufacture the BBC LS3/5A speakers -  have a pair of those! They put them in their anechoic chamber and tested them and described them as being the equal of modern speakers costing many thousands of pounds. They are pretty easy to drive - any reasonable Beomaster can manage it. They are similar in Beolab 5 in that the bass seems almost muted when you listen in the same room as it is so accurate and is only heard to be marked when listening from another room!

£500 is a complete steal.

Thanks for your endorsement Peter! I really am sad to see them go. Hopefully someone will look after them as well as you and I have. Would be really nice if it was a Beoworlder

When I pulled the dust covers off them (literally) I realised the frets are in better condition than I remembered. They actually look better than the photos on eBay!

Quite impressive Nigel !

I am somewhat confused as there are to types:  MS150 and MS150-2 ??

are there any audible differences ???

would you consider an offer and the much more difficult question: any chance of shipping ?

i did see a pair of MS150.2 on ebay with ww shipping being offered.

you most welcome to send me a PM as reply

cheers

Well I'll be blowed, or something beginning with b..... Big Smile

Despite being a "complete steal", no bids....Confused

I can only out it down to the time of year and folk needing their cash for other things....

If anyone wants to offer me £500 between now and when I re-list them in a few weeks time, then feel free. Please don't offer me less!  Sorry Alf, shipping is not an option, I consider myself an excellent packer - several positive comments on the quality of my packing on eBay, but these are just too damn big...

The good news is I think I've raised enough from my other items to finance a pair of Beolab 9s. Stick out tongue

Cheers

Nigel

Understand Nigel - thanks for your response!

shipping is a killer, I am aware of this....so I might take up the offer for a pair of MS150.2 incl shipping.

best of luck with your sale...more often than not itbis hurting living in such an isolated place as perth.

cheers

Hi Alf

Sorry, never answered your question about MS150 & MS150.2. They're exactly the same apart from the connector on the back of the speaker. MS150.2 has binding posts as opposed to a 2 pin DIN connector.

You couldn't be much further away! Just out of curiosity I will calculate the costs over the next day or 2 and let you know. I work next door to a packaging firm and will see what they can come up with... I'm thinking do I ship as 2 boxes or combine them onto a mini pallet....  Leave it with me and I'll come back to you.

Cheers

Hi Nigel,

well, an interesting game about shipping ?!

my gut-feeling is that  the mini pallet might be the more expensive option, but i never shipped a pallet

so this is really just a guess.

thank you fir clarifying the difference between those two versions.

at the moment I have an offer of £800 incl shipping for the 150.2 version plus stands.

nothing has been finalised as yet....I won’t rush into a desicion....may the best offer win is all I can say at this time....

might hear from you ?

till then have a peaceful x’mas break

And a different midrange driver and different crossover filters.
Soundwise I cannot tell any difference.

And the rear panels of the MS150.2 are black, not the same wood as the cabinet.

I'm amazed they didn't sell. They're a bargain compared to these!

Gone for £500.

The man has got himself a bargain!

Listening to my Beolab 9s will help ease the mourning process.....
