Hi everyone,

I have recently upgraded to a Beovision 14 and my current set up consists of two beolab 8000's two Beolab 9's and a Beolab 2 subwoofer. Since upgrading my TV system from the Beovision 10 my speaker system isn't what it used to be and the Subwoofer especially is very lacklustre, I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this or could recommend any potential remedies. Thank you in advance, all help is much appreciated and I will provide you with as much assistance as I possibly can.

Kind Regards,

James

I have noticed the same thing with my new Avant NG. I'm using Beolab 8000's and 6000's.  The sound seems to have lost its punch and is generally very quiet. I have to turn it up much much more than I had to on my previous Avant MK1. Since the Avant NG  and 14 share the same software, I'm wondering if that is the issue?

ah that is a possibility that I hadn't considered! If that is the case let's hope the software update toward the end of the month could potentially fix these issues!

I had (have) the same experience... Have a BL8000+BL11+BV14 combo... The sound just lacks depth.

Configured the BV to have 2 sound modes "Startup" and "Audio";

"Startup" is what's being used when watching TV/DVD/Settop/Apple TV. This is the surround mode. (all speakers configures); and is the default mode when the TV starts up.

"Audio" is used to listen to music (only BL8000 & BL 11 in use)

These settings are ONLY activated when I select the mode on the BeoRemote a second time! And then there's a clear difference in sound. To my opinion the audio modes are not selected when the TV starts up and there is some kind of default sound mode active which produces a flat sound.

Karel.

Hi,

I'll email each of you individually over the weekend to get more info on your setups. I'd like to look into this more deeply - but I'll need a lot more details from you to try and duplicate your setups.

Cheers

It is the operating system. I have the same issue on a Horizon. I have to select my stereo set up (which includes the Beolab 11 sub) twice, in order to activate the sound of the Beolab 11 (the Beolab 11 shows the green led from the beginning).

In addition to my previous reply and for completeness sake, Beolabs 8000 MK II in the front, Beolabs 4000 in the back and a Beolab 11 as sub.

@All

Would be very nice if you could public the results here, once they are there.

I guess a lot BV14 etc users will be interested ;-)

And thanks to Geoff for 'spotting' this thread ;-))

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi James,

I've been thinking about you (or, at least, your posting...) this weekend. I realise now that your issue may be the result of having changed from the BeoVision 10 to the new audio system, which has been in place since BeoPlay V1, BeoVision 11.

Specifically, I expect that, whereas your BV10 was probably bass managing your BL9's to the BL2, the BV14 is probably not doing so. If you wish to "undo" this default behaviour, you can do so using the Bass Re-direction level of the BL2 in the Bass Management settings. More details on this can be found in the Technical Sound Guide which can be downloaded from here. Note that a new 2017-edition of the TSG will be coming soon, which includes the menu map of the BeoVision 14.

Cheers

Hi,

I found this thread today after trying to find an explanation of the same issue as you. I replaced my old BV7 with a BV Horizon a year ago. The sound is degraded and especially the BL2 seems to be close to dead. I hardly hear any difference when it is connected or not.

Have you understand the reason or found any possible configuration to restore it?

Magnus,

I don't know if you've discovered the Technical Sound Guide yet, but it's definitely worth a read (essential I would say)..can be found here...

https://www.bang-olufsen.com/~/mediaV3/Files/User-Guides/BeoVision-Horizon/Technical-Sound-Guide-1409.pdf

I had a very similar issue when upgrading to a Beosystem 4 based system, and I was totally underwhelmed with bass - there was distinct lack of depth and warmth. It requires more tweaking and set up than 'the out of the box and play' I've been used to - but you can definitely make improvements. I have 6002s and an 11, connected to a V1-40, and I am still tinkering. A great thing is you can have a multitude of different set ups based on different listening preferences and scenarios.

Mr Geoff Martin has some good info on this personal website as to how and why things work, in particular with the addition of subwoofers to systems.
