I went from Mexico city up to San Luis Potosi, stuffed my 13" laptop into my suitcase as always, arriving to the hotel I unpacked and powered up the laptop to see what you guys are doing without me watching you (thats the only thing I use it for[:) ) the screen was broken, I could only see the left 1/3 of it. I tried a couple time to power off and on but still the same, on the other side of the highway there is an Officedepot, I went over there and bought a new HP Pavilion, 15" was all they could offer in the size of ram and hard disk I wanted, and a 64 GB USB memory, I could open some files visible on the screen, from there go to C: and then access my files, as luck will I have then more or less in orderly sorted shape. got half of them transferred to the new laptop.

Here it is

It was getting late, so I stopped transferring files, and took a closer look on what I bought, in the upper right corner of the keyboard I saw a B&O sign

I then got curious and went into the windows and found this.

My last laptop lasted about 5 years, this one will grow older, and then get integrated with my vintage B&O

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Bang & Olufsen sound on this notebook  (speakers) is  unacceptable  when compared to  other common sound on my other computers. Best way to describe it is "Tin like" sound. I did update to the latest Realtec driver. Any suggestions appreciated.

@Patrick

Did you try it with good headphones (before you loaded the new drivers)?

The only suggestion: Headphones or external speakers. I thought B&O learned from their mistakes in Asus' Zenbooks (which have the same terrible tiny embarassing sound coming out of their speakers) but that doesn't seem to be the case.

That's really bad if B&O are putting their name to something that does not reflect their sound quality. I've just bought the new Retina MacBook and the built in speakers are absolutely superb for a laptop. So clear and such a tiny sized laptop. So it CAN be done!

Very damaging for B&O to sign their name to something sub-standard!

A lot of people are using their computer/laptop as a source for their tv or audiosystems.

Would be nice to know, if the BeoPlay drivers are doing their job in that case.

Personally I would not want to listen very much/for a long time to the speakers of a laptop - not even of a 'new MacBook'!. I'd prefer using headphones.

It depends on the situation. I'm not a fan of wearing headphones in the house, in fact never keen on that and when I'm working on my MacBook from my bed or sitting on the sofa it's perfect.

Maybe the H8 will change my mind :)

Maybe it is damaging

It is just proving nowadays that BeoPlay is a sub-standard brand. Big Smile

Received my wife's laptop HP 17" "B&O Play" speakers yesterday (i5, 4go, 1to).

After installing everything, I tried on youtube an R.E.M. video : absolute crap (the sound). Really absolute crap !

I wanted to take pictures of it but my wifes iphone is full, managed to take one picture of the box only.

I have two weeks to take it back, I think it will go back for an other laptop, the screen is also absolute crap.

My old laptop, also a HP has Beats Audio, and that sounded better than the HP Beoplay with the build in speakers. But connected to an amp this one with Beoplay sounds a lot better than any other PC or laptop I have tried. More detailed middle and height and a lot better bass. The difference is really amazing. I will try today with a pair of H8

Guys this is terrible, this HP deal with crap sound is going to destroy B&O's name for quality sound. This explains all of the hate on B&O Play's Instagram & Facebook from people that knew HP were bad at making computers.

Truly tragic.   At least they make great printers :)

HP's traditional strength, which has been lost, was always in high quality instrumentation, meters, scopes, etc. Used a ton of them in engineering, they and Tektronix were the go to guys for such things, and HP pioneered a lot of digital sampling meters and scopes and such that were well ahead of their time.

HP's printers are, by and large, terrible, cheaply made, and of poor reliability. Their market was made by selling printers dirt cheap and charging an arm and a leg for ink cartridges. If you want to know how well thought of they are look up the videos on YouTube of GI's in Iraq and Afghanistan machine gunning HP printers into pieces because of lousy support and early failures. Pretty entertaining to see a printer go up against an upset guy with a SAW. Reminds me of the printer scene in Office Space.

Today it appears the best value/performance printers come from Epson and Canon, along with Brother.

It sounds really good with headphones, just watched games of thrones. Brilliant.

Not so bad depending the software after all (vlc better than windows media) even without headphones.

Won't listen to music with the laptop but for a movie it's fine.

Less crap than I said then.

Well that's encouraging if you don't need to use in-built speakers. Thanks beogreg.

I'm doing an cleanup for a friend, and to my surprise, it's also an hp laptop with the B&O logo and beoplay settings menu. I must say, it sounds like crap indeed, much much inferior to my new macbook which sounds exceptional for a portable computer. I really don't know why they put their name on it, it baffles me.

Beolit 12 - Beolab 4 pc (dead now) - Beoplay H5 - Beolab 9 - BeoRemote One BT - Beoplay M3

A Currys ( I think) TV ad shows the logo on HP laptops but does not mention them in the voiceover. Very odd.

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

BeoJeff that's sad if their printers aren't very good. I've had the opposite. Mine in from 2002, it got me through college and then University and still works perfectly to this day. Not bad going. AND my experience of Epson printers was of terrible quality and huge consumers of cartridges. I'd definitely buy HP again for printers.

Totally agree with Crossbytje, the new MacBook speakers are great! It's a lovely, chic lil thing.

Last company I worked for dropped HP as a supplier due to bad experiences with their printers. We never used their laptops, but did have their printers. Personally I've been using a Brother all in one laser printer for at least 7 years with no issues.

Fifteen years ago I had terrible luck with an Epson inkjet, all my in laws have Epson inkjets, inexpensive ones, and they seem to work flawlessly, no nozzle jams like I suffered, so apparently they solved that issue. I'm interested in Epson for their photo printers that are geared towards B&W.

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

I could try one day to connect via hdmi port the computer to the BV11.

I will never use it myself though allready enough sources (playstation, youtube, usb hdd, home media tune in radio...).

I will try to buy one this morning. If I can't it will be Madame on wednesday...

What would be the point of that experiment, with all (alleged) B&O content of the laptop removed from the audio path?

No hdmi/hdmi cable available folks.

Will have to wait.

I wanted to launch apple music on the computer to see (ear) how it would play on tv speakers.

saw the same add Simon, yes it's Curry's/PC World and they clearly zoomed into the B&O logo a couple of times but there was no mention in the voice over.

the brand speakers for itself...

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Done two tests.

First : apple music on the computer trough tv speakers Vs the same track on youtube official video on the tv. Apple music via computer was better than youtube on tv.

Second : a live radio on computer trough tv speakers Vs the same radio on the tv app tune in radio. The tv app wins by far.

Same sound setting (ie Music) on all sources (hdmi 6, youtube, media player).

To sum up I would say that tv alone with tune in radio or similar is enjoyable without extra speakers and if you use your laptop it will be bettet with extra speakers.
