Please forgive me if this has been addressed in the forum. I’ve researched it and could not find an answer. I recently acquired a Beogram CD 50 for a great price. Seller stated that the unit worked fine until stored and now won’t play. I removed the cover and have found that, while the CD loads perfectly, the laser carriage doesn’t move towards the center and therefore the disk does not start spinning. There is a humming noise which seems like it’s trying to do something. But there is no movement from the motor that moves the laser carriage and the gears that the small motor would move seem locked.
Any ideas????
Welcome to Beoworld !
It's safe to say, that all Beogram CD50 wil be in need of some kind of service by now, so that wouldn't come as a surprise.Having said that, you are aware, that the CD50 loads the CD upside (labelside) down?
Martin
Martin, thank you for your reply! Yeah, I inserted it label down. When I bought it, I had that hope in the back of my head that the seller was doing it wrong!!
Any ideas? Does it sound like anything you’ve seen?
It's quite common for the small carriage drive motor to stick. If you turn the motor via the worm gear on it's shaft,it may come to life, suggesting that the commutator is poor contact. You won't be able to move the main gears,as they are driven by the worm.

Thanks Nick. I’ll try that when I get home from work!
