Im the proud and happy owner of a Beovision 7 -40 Mk3 with DVD - and had it for 8 happy years - its controlling Blu-Ray & AppleTV for all the catchup services and iTunes Movies etc.

After moving on our playroom Beovision 6 and replacing it with a Hisense 43" 4K tv - I'm starting to think its time to update the 'main' tv - and the following caught my eye :

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bang-Olufsen-B-O-Beovision-Avant-55/253578362538?hash=item3b0a72beaa:g:DpgAAOSwceNaXX73

Now I've read many many comments from you all about the avant software experience - but there has been some happy owners - so Im thinking whether i can take the plunge on a used Avant (like the linked above) knowing what I know .... has the software issues been resolved ...at least enough for a TV that will have 4K apple TV and likely a 4k disc player of some description attached ?

Be interested in your thoughts - both negative and (hopefully some) positive

I would be mostly interested about 30Hz @ 4K limitation on HDMI. Is that in any aspect the showstopper with Apple TV 4K?

Personally don’t care that much about lack of HDR support, don’t know how much is that important for you?

Ah - i didnt realise it had that limitation ... Apple TV 4k can do 60Hz. Whether id notice or not is a different matter ...

Is the TV in the Ebay advert an Android or pre Android Avant? Wasnt obvious to me

If you are interested in upgrading, and not worried about HDR (i presume?), then i'd get an Avant pre Android.

I swapped my BV14 (i.e. with Android) after 7 months or so (from release) to an Avant 55 pre Android, and very happy with it. The panel is better than that in the newer Android BV's as well.

But i dont care much about HDR, and had no desire for anything Android (even more so after having it with my BV14).

As for whether Android TV issues have been "sorted" on the newer BV's ( Avant included) - looking at recent reviews of Sony 2017 and 2018 TV's, its clear that Android TV is structurally unstable and give little chance of working seamlessly by underpowered circuitry in those TV's. I'd go nowhere near it, and i'm normally quite patient.  There's only so much merit in (generic) people grumbling at B&O for its instability - its more an Android than B&O issue.

On the HDR issue, just be aware that a 4K but not HDR TV (like the Avant) isn't a big step up in picture quality - you need HDR for that.
