Hi thinking of how to repair a mmc pickup. has or does anyone know how to do it?
Can be put into an existing MMC a replacement needle?
Is there such a needle on the market?
Regards
Jan
You can't just purchase an off-the-shelf replacement needle - the cartridge must be rebuilt. And the best, most economical service to use for this is Axel Schurholz. In fact, he can upgrade your cartridge if you wish (e.g. put an MMC-2 cantilever/stylus on an MMC-4 cartridge body).
thanks for your reply. do you know where I can buy a off-the-shelf replacement needle?
Because I want to be able to rebuilt the cartidge, I want to ask the question again how to do this?
I have many customers who purchase or comes to service with a broken mmc needle. I serve many B & O products, but has not serviced a mmc needle, but would like to provide service in mmc needle.
grateful for all the responses and info
Best regards
Many repairers would like to service MMC cartridges but it's not very easy. The easiest thing would be to take a stylus off another quality brand and then transfer to thetiny rubber support inside the MMC cartridge. But do you have the method, skills and tools for getting into the MMC cartridge to do the job - and out again ?
Martin
Hi Martin, I actually do not have method, skills and tools. Ok I have been working for 30 years with the Service of TV and stereo, and maybe my tools enough, I also have a Carl Zeiss microscope Axiolab that yes can be good to have. Which replacement needle would fit on mmc pickup? What tools are needed? With best regards
Here a pic of a MMC cartridge
The biggest problems are broken cantilevers and the elastomer suspension getting old. The needle (diamond) comes in different qualities and forms, depending on the MMC number, the cantilever comes in different materials, aluminum, platinum.
Your problem will be: First to disassemble the cartridge without doing any forther damage, second attach the new cantilever (with the correct needle inserted in the cantilever) to the micro cross, third, find the correct elastomer and attach that in the correct way. 4th, assemble it all correctly. 5th, test and measure for correct function.
As I repair printing machines from 1 to 70 tons I cant help you with the tools, my smallest tool is a 7 mm fork/star wrench
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Thanks it's actually a great photo, just as I was looking for. generally mmc20 needle less expensive to get in Sweden and maybe the needle from a mmc20 would fit on a mmc? correct me if I'm wrong.
A video of Der Meister (Axel) at work here. (How's your German?) You can often find people selling defective MMC's on eBay for you to practice on. Good Luck.

But now even broken B&O command silly high prices, unfortunately. I've seen people bidding on broken carts up to really preposterous amounts.
Jacques
Jan maybe you should try to contact the other Swedish members, and make with them a joint effort, there are members from Stockholm, Örebro and Halmstad as far as I remember. Some of these members must have cartridges to start on.
Hello again, hope everyone had a good time, did not have much time to write but I've had time to buy some tools and will soon make an attempt to serve a MMC needle. Will tell you more and add some pictures. Have a good time, as long as you wait for pictures. Best regards
I'm really interested in seeing how this works out for you. I am pretty sure I don't have the manual dexterity or steady hands for this, but am very interested in how this would be done.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
I am trying to send Axel S an e-mail, but the are using an insane kind of Prüfcode.
I had a loose cantilever, so got to open the cartridge. Now what should I do? Re-glue the cantilever cross to the suspension? Are there supposed to be any wire connections on the back?
Thanks for any help :)

chartz:The bonded sphericals that Axel used were of poor quality (I had two done - the microscope tells the truth). I do hope Alistair does a better job.

Jacques, what microscope you use to inspect your needles? I'm looking for one but don't want to spend thousands on this alone...
Thanks!
I have a science lab microscope.
Thank you Sir!
@ Almiscarado
Plesse let us know how you got this stupid thing out of the cartrigde housing.
Is it glued inside?
Heatgun?
Did you cut the thin wires from the coils while you pulled out the black plastic with the contacts?
Did you get it back to play propper?
Thanks for reply.
Christian
He simply destroyed his cartridge. There!
Hello,
There is a chance that cartridge can still be rebuilt, but it is a very bad way to open it
