Hello all,

I fear that I may know the answer to this already, but does anyone know of a way to add IR PUC codes to a Beosystem 3 with out going to a dealer?  I wouldn't mind going to a dealer, however the closest one to me is 500 miles away...  Specifically I am looking to add a ROKU to the list.

Also looking into the possibility of adding  ROKU to a Beovision 8-32.

Thanks for any help with this.

-Tucker

Hi Tucker,

I would think that overnighting via a courier to the dealer is a better option.

The dealer cost should be relatively small. Take the opportunity to update the Beosystem 3 and add as many PUC codes as you feel is suitable for the future. You will have a truely integrated product for a while.

Cheers Beoaus.

I agree with Beoaus. A good, comprehensive update to your PUC database will take care of your needs for years. Include the major brands of blu-ray players, set-top boxes, and screens as well as Apple TV and Roku are good to have in your database. FYI, I was able to get Roku USB dongles from Oppo that connect to my Oppo blu-ray players and are controlled by the Oppo that is in my PUC. Also, when having the PUC updated, you might find that a firmware update of your BeoSystem 3 will give you added benefits.

While the Lintronic code-converter is very flexible, I think you'll find it frustrating. Also, you'd have to deal with the company owner's attitude. The programming software and instructions are not very user-friendly, and the owner's tech support approach is to refer you to reference materials rather than to give you straightforward directions.

Beoaus & beojeff,

Thank you very much!  I may try to send the Beosystem 3 out or maybe have a road trip.  Do you know if it is the same for my Beovision 8?  Would I need to to take it in or can it be done remotely?

Thanks again,

-Tucker

Take both - both must be done manually.

P.S. Maybe there is an update for the BSys3, that could be done, when you are there.

This is a really good example of how beneficial an external AV processor such as the BeoSystem 3 is. It's far easier and safer to ship or transport a BeoSystem 3 than a full BeoVision. Most dealers will not even consider shipping a BeoVision without the proper foam packaging from B&O. My BeoVision 10 shipment was delayed by weeks because the foam packaging and box shipped from Denmark to the dealer kept arriving damaged. I once had a BeoVision 4 shipped to me that arrived with a cracked screen. Also, let's face it: BeoVisions are quiet heavy.

If you have a good relationship with a dealer, he might be willing to loan you his laptop that is loaded and ready to transfer the PUC update to your BeoVision and BeoSystem. I've had dealers offer this to me in the past. I had good relationships with those dealers, though.

Hi Tucker,

Perhaps only do a road trip with a few items, it’s a long way...

Unfortunately TV’s of that era and Beosystems need dealers to update. Worth the effort though.

Good luck, Beoaus.

Another idea for your BeoVision 8 is to use an Apple TV instead of Roku. I know it might not be what you're used to, but it has many of the same major apps (aka channels). Something nice about the Apple TV is that you can have the Apple TV learn the IR codes of something else that might be in your PUC. That's what I did with my BeoVision 8 with an Apple TV and it controls it just fine.
