If I understand this correctly, I can convert my BS6500 to a ML system using a Beolink converter (1612) and using Beolink passive units (1658) for each of my link rooms. If so, would I also be able to connect my BS4000 so I can share music from my BS6500 in my parlor with the BS4000 in my bedroom and the other way around? If not, what are my limitations? Thanks.

Hi,

this works if the Beosystem 4000 is on a software level which allows it to be set to A-Opt = 6.  I guess  this was possible with Software level >= 2.1

Every source in a room with an source can be selected directly and the other rooms sources with the prefix 'LINK' and the source. In a room with only speakers you get the main room sources with the source buttons. The link room sources should be possible if the main room is _not_ active. If the main room is active the Beomaster 6500 _can't_ route the local source to the local Amplifier  _and_ simultaneously the link source to a 'passive' link room. Such a function is only possible with a BeoCenter 2 (DVD or Audio) or a Beosystem 4.

I hope this helps a bit Smile

Hi all, could anyone explain (or point me to a link) that describes the different versions of the 1658 Beolink passive? I'm planning to add these to my BS6500 system and I see there are different styles - some appear to have a power button and LED, and others don't. Plus there are all the different software versions. I'd like to be able to target my eBay search to just the models I can use.

Beolink Passive and the similar ML/MCL converter are explained on this page: https://www.beoworld.org/beotech/ml3.htm

As you can see from the part numbers, as long as you get the 1658 or 1653 you will have the 110V versions.

You can probably use a mix of them depending on availability.  I think the latest SW version is 1.3, but perhaps someone out there knows better!

Actually, see Berlin's 18 Feb post here: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/9438/82763.aspx#82763

You probably want SW version 1.5, or 1.6.

Thanks, Guy. So I will look for 1.5 and higher because I want A.Aux capability.

Ok, so many of the second hand units I'm finding for sale do not have a sw version on the label, but do say made in the Czech Republic. I've seen some units marked made in Denmark with ver. 1.4. Could I assume the Czech units have 1.5?

Firstly congratulations on winning a prize last night!

With regard to the passives, I have had a look through the European sales and like you can only find the SW version stated on the label of the Made in Denmark passives - mostly 1.3 but a few 1.4s.

It does seem logical that the Czech ones would be at the very latest SW versions - 1.5 or even 1.6, and that logic has been expressed before here: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/13291/115385.aspx#115385

Thanks, Guy. I was very pleasantly surprised by the prize drawing. And thanks for the help with the beolink setup. I'm really looking forward to setting up the BS6500, but it's a little bittersweet because I will be putting my BS5000 away for good.

Ok, so my BS5000 finally started shutting down, (need to install Martin’s repair kit) so I put the BS6500 in place instead. Changed the MCL82 boxes for MLC2 boxes and everything seems fine. Relay problem on the Beomaster that I will have to sort out, but I may just switch to powerlink in the main room first.

I added a Beolink converter and a Beoport 2. I installed BM-link on my Mac and updated the Beoport firmware. Other than that, it doesn’t seem to do anything. I’m guessing I have some setup work to do.

Do I need the IR receiver on the Beoport in this configuration? I only have a Masterlink cable between the Beoport and the converter. I thought a Beo4 set to N music would work right from the Beomaster or link rooms. Not quite, correct?

Me again!

I am pretty sure that to work with Beoport/Beolink PC2, the rest of your system has to be N.MUSIC/N.RADIO compatible.  This started with BS3000, according to the info here: https://www.beoworld.org/faq_view.asp?id=20

Hence unfortunately it will not work with/from your 6500.  Adding an IR receiver to the Beoport would however allow it to work as a stand alone system - effectively giving Beo4 control of your Mac.

Would it work if I added a BeoSystem 3 and my Beosound 4000, or does everything have to be completely compatible?

Sorry - I am not sure!  If you try that, perhaps you would have to make the Beoport the 'audio master', as it mentions in that FAQ that I linked to.

I remember several years ago trying a BC9500, BV3-32 and Beoport setup and getting very frustrated - I think that the lack of N.MUSIC compatibility in the BC9500 stopped the rest of the system from talking to each other.  I gave up in the end.

Ok Guy, thanks. I’ll try it and report back if it works. The BeoPort was cheap, so no great loss. I thought it would be nice to have that level of control. I think I want the BeoSystem 6500 to be the audio master and the BeoSystem 3 to be the video master in this setup.

No problem! When I bought my BeoPort it was also cheap and to be honest it was quite good fun to play around with.  I did use it for a couple of years 'stand alone' in my study connected to a Passive and some CX50s, and running with a PC.  One 'trick' was the ability to select and control a CD in the computer's CD drive using a Beolink Remote.

Here's a picture of it being tested - I used a VX sensor as the IR input:

So I must have something wrong. I have BM- link on my Mac Mini and I can hear music on the Beoport headphone jack. I am not able to hear music through my Masterlink converter connected to my BeoSystem 6500. Any settings needed to get this working?

First,,,,I have no experience with Beoport, but the command N.MUSIC is identical to the command A.TAPE2 on your Beomaster so that may cause a conflict?? At least it does if you have a combination of Masterlink and Netlike like I do.

As mentioned before, I don't think it will work with a BS6500 due to compatibility problems.  If you take the 6500 out of the system, and set up the Beoport as an Audiomaster (Option 2), does it work from other ML components? (Clearly it won't work over MCL as these need the 6500 to drive them).

Exactly.  It's probably the clash between N.MUSIC and TAPE.2 that causes the compatibility problem that I mentioned above.  How can the BS6500 know which input to look for when it is supplied with both?  It was the same with my BC9500.

I don't think so.  See here: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/6400/47272.aspx

But you may wish to try it in Option 6 as mentioned in the thread.

Thanks for all of the help. I needed to follow the power up sequence in order to get normal operation, and also change out the datalink cable. One of the cables I had was not a bi-directional audio cable, it was only one way.

So the answer was to set the option settings for the BeoSystem 3 and BeoSystem 6500, remove power from them and the Beolink Converter, power the BS 3, then the BS 6500, and then finally, the Beolink converter. Now I have normal operation.
