DB9 IR Eye wiring for BS3.

Hi all, 

Currently I have an older IR eye wired up with a 3.5mm jack to my BS3. 

I've also got a pile of other IR eyes in my box of B&O spares. Including one with a timer/play and volume buttons. 

I have three questions 1) Does the BS3 use the light sensor in earlier IR eyes to correct for lighting? 2) what is the wiring pinouts for wiring an IR eye to a DB9 connect? All the manuals I find refer to wire colours, which of course my generic DB9 cable won't match.  3) Will the timer/vol/play buttons work with the bs3 in video/audio mode once wired up and does the later model have a light sensor?
