My newly acquired and fixed BS9000, has a very high frequency sound from the cd unit when playing cd's..

I noticed it but thought it was my ears :) Then I was at my local dealer one day, and we started talked about this BS9000, he was interested in the testmodes and so on :) and then asked me if I had heard the high freq sound from the CD drive.... So it must be a known issue..

It is very noticeable if you put your ears close to the unit when playing cd's and mute the sound. The high pitch sound stops the second the units stops playing cd's

Has anyone else noticed this ?

Yes, the whine is typical of old Philips CD mechs.

I  solved it by re-capping the servo board on a CD5500. I can't help you with the Beosound though.

I have just never heard it before, and have had a lot of Ouverture/2300/3000/6500/7000/9500's

None of them have had the whine. Maybe it is the design of the 9000 that enhances the sound.

It is possible to recap the CDM12 mechanism, could give it a try and see if it helps :)
