Hello BeoWorld Community
My Beogram 5500 record player that I‘ve owned for 3 years has a little issue that is getting worse:
The record starts scratching the chassis when the tone arm gets closer to the center as the record plays on.
I used to think that this was caused by the uneven surface on which it was placed and balanced it out with a thin book placed underneath one side of the Beogram 5500. That only solved the issue partially though. I‘ve placed the Beogram 5500 on an even surface now and the problem remains.
What‘s the real cause and how do I fix it?

You need to realign the turntable suspension.
The weight of the pu arm carriage as it approaches the centre of the record,is just enough to lower the sub-chassis so that the record touches the deckplate.
It's a simple adjustment detailed in another post on the forum, and also of course in the service manual, which is available on site if you upgrade your membership (well worth it!)
