Beocentre 9500 CODE

I am repairing this lovely Beocentre 9500.  

When I switch on it has CO.DE in the display.  I have written it like this to emphasis the '.' point in the code.

I replaced the lithium cell ensuring its connected the right way and reassembled the unit.

I am using a Beolink1000 remote control from my Beovision LX2802.

 

Before I switch the unit on, I press RADIO on the handset, Then i switch on at the mains, I put in 1271 on the remote control, wait 3 seconds and switch off at the mains, wait three seconds and switch on but it still says CODE.

I've also tried 1271 then PLAY but still I get CODE

Why?  Is there something else I have to do

Yes.

You have to press "PLAY" after the 1271.

This is missing in beoworld's description :-(

I've done that but it still CODE comes up when you switch on.

 

The method is:

Mains power off.

Press RADIO on Beolink 1000

Turn power on, word CODE is in the display

Within 30 seconds

Press 1 2 7 1 PLAY

Wait 3 seconds

Turn mains power off

Wait 3 seconds

Turn mains power back on.

 

The word CODE is still in the display

 

Switch

Have you tried leaving the BC9500 unpowered for longer before trying the reset process?

Otherwise I would suggest disconnecting the lithium cell and reconnecting again.

EDIT:  I seem to remember that when I replaced the battery in my mother-in-law's BC9500, after powering up it took a while for the machine to 'settle down' and accept the code.  It was almost as if it needed 10 minutes or so to 'charge' the lithium cell before it would work properly!  Try this before going back inside the machine to check the battery.

I left it on for around an hour with the CODE in the display, then tried again, same result, CODE in the display

I've got a bulletin from B&O that states the procedure as:

Switch on at mains

Ensure that BL1000 is in an audio mode,as you say,radio,cd,phono etc

Enter 1271(no mention of Play),then after 3 sec's disconnect from mains,leave disconnected for 3 sec's,then reconnect.

Try operation.

If still no go,are you confident that the battery is good,re 3Volt measured across it,and print not damaged from getting the original one out??

Try the BL1000 in another audio mode in case the radio button doesn't work?

Check that the 1271 buttons all function via the tv?

Check that Beocenter is not in option O (should be option 1 ie sound-1-store)and thus not receiving remote commands?

Just because nobody else has said this, though these are unlikely and should be lower priority than the other debugging you are trying:

-- As an alternative to trying the 1,2,and 7 keys on some other B&O equipment, which is easy *if* you have other know-good Beo hardware, you could instead use a (non-Apple) electronic camera to view the tip of the remote when you press those keys to make sure it lights up.

-- Put a scope on the output of the IR receiver inside the 9500 to make sure it is passing the codes on to the processor.

-- (See previous response) I was not aware that Sound-1-Store was "in front of" the receipt of CO.DE in the logic, so I didn't think it had anything to do with it.  BUT if it is, then that seems your most likely fix, since after all you have completely trashed the options memory by removing the lithium battery!

Please report on your progress and what finally fixed it so the rest of us can benefit.

I've been on holiday for a couple of weeks hence no response (excuse the pun)

 

I disconnected the battery, left it for a minute or two then reconnected.

 

At first it didn't want to know, then I held the remote away from the unit and pressed sound - 1 - store and 1 came up in the display.

 

Then I tried 1271 PLAY and it worked.

 

PHEW.

 

A big thank you to all that have helped me.
