Hello,

Dusted off a very nice complete Beosystem 5500 last night but ran into a strange problem. When the turntable is plugged into the beomaster, the system will only play in mono (left speaker only) - even when using the other sources (CD, tape, aux). However, if I unplug the 7 pin din from the phono slot on the beomaster, the system plays stereo just fine.

Hoping there's a simple solution here I'm missing.

Thanks

That's a good 'un!!!

If you waggle the plug in it's socket, does the sound reappear via both channels?

I suspect that there is a crack in the pcb somewhere, and inserting the phono plug is moving the board slightly?

The 'speaker 1 muting relay is notorious for causing this symptom too of course, and that is on the same pcb.

Try connecting your 'speakers to speaker 2 sockets,to see if the phenomena persist's there. If not, then the SP1 relay is the culprit.

Otherwise, you will need to investigate the signal processing pcb where the input sockets connect.
