hi,

just St bought a Beomedia 1 off eBay, listed as new, but on connecting it up, I get no output from the VGA - although the power light is on and the drive is spinning. Connecting a network cable to it, I get both lights (connection and traffic) light up but I can't see it on my network.

any idea on what the issue is? As I only have vga, could the board output have vga switched off of something?

it is a beomedia type 1752

Are you able to either connect S-VHS or RGB? If you have a VGA adapter that might show something? For 3 quid it might be worth a shot?

Thanks - but there is absolutely no output from the VGA pins, so I think it is DOA. Can't think of any situation where the VGA output could be switched off in the BIOS - as I can't see anything to turn it on!

What type of screen are you connecting it too? If I recall if it's a B&O TV you also need to use an ML cable to the TV but I may be wrong...it's been a while

I'm using a direct connect vga cable to a beovision 4, I'll try with the ML cable plugged in, but pretty sure I have already tried that.

Unfortunately, with the ML cable in, it still isn't appearing.

Try using a composite RCA video cable. The output resolution of the Beomedia may not be set properly, but will display from the RCA cable. From there determine what resolution your display requires and set it in the menu.

Should be good from there.

The ML to is only for control, without it a red dot bottom right appears on-screen when the main menu appears. The lowest video output resolution is composite video as per the other post, this will enable you to at least see the OSD when it boots up but you need to normally make you connections first then power it up. Hope that helps.

Seems to be DOA. The analogue VGA can be connected to either a DVI-I socket (supports both analogue and digital signals) or to a VGA socket. You can connect the analogue Y/C-signal to your TV's AV input via SCART (note that not all SCART inputs support Y/C signals. B&O recommended to use the alternative CVBS output on the BM1 back in the day).

But, you've done it correct - so I'm afraid the VGA output is not working as it should.

Disappointing! The vendor though has kindly agreed to refund me for the unit and I don't have to send it back.

I guess it is th motherboard - and I can see a VIA EPIA-MKII Rev B on eBay  - think it would be a straight replacement? Not sure about the bios.

oh, and on opening it up, the light on the ML board doesn't come on at all - so the problem is more than the VGA output!

I had to replace my motherboard, worked perfectly ever after - I believe there was an issue with the way it was suspended in the cabinet, later reinforced and working fine.

Hope it works out with the replacement and/or upgrade of the motherboard.

I have two of these VIA Epia mainboards. Not B&O originals, but excactly the same ones. It is possible to save the original BIOS incl. the B&O boot screen and restore it on the non B&O mainboards without problems.

Did that years ago for testing purpose.

Beomedia 1 is nothing else then a normal PC extended with the ML board.

Simply said yes, but you need either the ML board or a Beolink PC2 and the B&O software.

Well new motherboard in, CMOS settings changed to recognise the disk and it starts up. Problem is, it says it isn't registered for N.Radio. No problem I thought... just register it via th Mac. No go there though, web link says that products don't need registering!

anyone know how to get around this issue?

As long as the old mainboard is working you can save the bios to file, but as far as I know there is no poof of serial from within the software. This has been started first in BM5.

Have you tried to recover the bm1's software after mainboard change ?

Yes, done a restore and an update to the (latest!) software. It's a puzzle.

Is the BIOS menu option available when you hit Shift-8?

Is the beomedia 1 working correct now ?

No, you have to boot via a bootable media and then use awdflash (if I remember right that it was an AWARD BIOS) to save BIOS to file, then write it back into the mainboard you currently have in your working Beomedia 1.

Well I've put the old but failing disk back in and I'm now getting N.Radio, so there must be something on the disk - I'm suspecting that it is one of the files on BM_System, but not sure which one it is.

@Beolce,

Do you happen to have the BIOS file saved? I only see the option to write the BIOS with the  awdflash software.

Actually, doesn't matter - I got the correct flashing tool from the Via website. If you do have the bin file though it will save me having to find a Beomedia 1 to grab the BIOS from though!

If you are wondering why I'm bothering with this - it's because it is a very cheap way to get N.Music and N.Radio on my system.

This is why I keep my Beomedia 1 too. I don't listen much to n.radio or n.music, but if I want, I can.

If you can wait a day or two I will grab my bm1 out of the cabinet and save the bios file for you.

Hi,

i am still using the Beomedia 1.

I power it up with Osram Lightify Plug connected to my HUE System.

It is possible to install VNC Server on the Beomedia 1. So you can control it with any VNC Client like iPad or Android.

I installed a software called Shairport4w, this is a Airplay Service for Windows. It can record the stream as well, but never used this option, just for testing.

It is a bit tricky to install, because of missing valid certifcates, but once installed it starts up with as service and works like a charme.

I select N.RADIO and press stop. (An empty N.RADIO or N.MUSIC folder will do the same) Then I can stream e.g. spotify through Airplay from myiPad.

Hi,

I'm also using the BeoMedia 1 and I'm very happy with it!

You might be interested by some upgrades I made:

  • It was easy to install WMA lossless codecs, which improves dramastically the sound quality: I highly recommand this!
  • A small Wifi N USB adaptor required a manual driver install, it was a little tricky to get the file on the hard drive 1st. Anyway, I now save my install files on the data partition so that I can find them instantly if I need to refresh the system.
  • I recently bought Connectland AD-SATA-TO-IDE-AIDE2S1 from Amazon. It was effortless with Paragon 16.5 to save the original drive image and restore it back to a 2.5" WD Blue 1TB SATA drive. I first started the BeoMedia to check it was working, then resized the data partition with Paragon and it worked like a charm. The BeoMedia now boots much faster, the drive is very silent and keeps very cool: the fan Inside the BeoMedia is always idle and the box is not warm anymore with plenty of room to put my audio files.
  • I found an old IR eye with the DIN plug. It was quite easy to replace the cable with an airplane earphone with a stereo jack connector. The cable was pretty thin but it's okay and the BeoMedia 1 can receive the V.AUX signal to power on SVHS output thru the BeoVision: this way I can select the music and then switch to N.MUSIC (sound is much much better and BeoCenter 2 displays titles).

Regards.
