hi guys , just had a new addition to by B&O system comprising of a set of passive pentas . just wondering if there was a preffered setup with my RL60.2s , the problem i am finding is that at mid to high volume levels volume clipping kicks in and messes with the sound . I know that this is to protect the various componants from overload but was wondering if there was a prefference to which speaker ports are used for which speaker - thanks in advance
I am afraid that the problem is possibly lack of power in the amp to drive the two pairs of speakers to med/high sound levels.
Which sockets the speakers are connected to is irrelevent
Regards Graham
As Graham said the BC9500 isn't really up to driving two pairs of largish passive speakers at the same time at big volume. The no. 1 & 2 speaker ports are simply connected in parallel, so it won't make any difference how you connect them - the Beocenter will always struggle if you have them both playing.
My advice is to choose a pair (the Pentas obviously ) and use them.

chers guys - i thought as much but wasn't sure . the next question is ..... I have already got a 5 pin din plug ready to wire up to an rca lead to link to an amplifier , the only problem is that i have found conflicting wiring diagrams to which pins will give me a controlled low-level output from the powerlink socket on the back of the 9500 . budget will decide on the amp of choice ( not a great amount) but as long as i can find the right pin combination i think i will be ok - ebay sells an already wired lead set but i am more than competant of creating such lead as long as i know the configuration. does anyone have such a lead that definatly works that they could take a quick peek for me - thanks for all your input - Pete
wasn't sure on the relivancy, as when i 'mute ' the system only one pair goes off - - pete
Beo4 'til I die!
just thinking - would a beomaster 5000 be of any use to me ? i dont know if they would work toether off the same 1000 remote controll or if the powerlink would work on them
Hi think the BM5000 uses a different remote control, the 5500 would work with a BL1000 though. but you would have a problem if they are in the same room and would have set it so that it works as a Link amplifier - i.e Link and then the command - I think!
just picked up a beomaster 5500 and used the powerlink from the back of my 9500 - works a treat !
Good afternoon folks !
This is the nearest thread to deal with my own BC 9500 technical questions. Forgive me for hijacking it briefly.
First question to the aficionados:
I'm already running 4 (2 left / 2 right) Beolab 8000s with my BC 9500 and BG 4500. Q: Can I also hook-up my Beovox RL 6000s to the passive sockets and so run 6 speakers alltogether ?? I have a good-size living/dining room and would like to wall mount the RL 6000s high up close to the ceiling and slightly angled downwards. Your advice will be invaluable (before I start drilling)
Second question:
The CD drive on the BC 9500 has recently devoped an anoying squeak / squeal from the spindle, which, allthough not noticeable while music is playing, does become challenging between tracks or when listening to vocal Radio-shows at lower volume. is there anything I can grease or clean to remedy ?? I have partially dismantled the BC several times already, for door strings, Cap- Kit, mute relay, Cassette-drive, so I'm OK with a bit of DIY.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Best wishes
Neil
As far as the speakers go, you could do but the volume will be difficult to balance and I think the RLs will add little to the quality.
On the squeal, I imagine that this could be wear in the bearing and I am not sure lubrication will help. However I am happy to defer to the more mechanically gifted advisers here!

Agreed here - the Beolabs don't put any load at all on the Beocenter, so in theory you could add even two pairs of passive speakers (with the same caveats as in my previous post above)... but I can't see what good it would do.
Regarding the noise, check first that the mechanism is free to bounce on its supports. You should be able to press it down slightly at each corner when the lid is open. It's easy to slightly mislocate the springs etc. while reinstalling the mechanism or closing the top cover.
Other than that, I think a likely suspect might the freewheeling part of the clamp, on the arm that swings with the lid movement. Guess you could try a minuscule amount of sewing machine oil there (you don't want it running down and spreading everywhere while the CD spins).
Many thanks chaps !
your advice is extremely helpful, and has saved me a days work drilling, wiring and making-good.
Tomorrow I'll open the BC and try to pin-point the squeal even further. I'll post the result later in the week.
Grateful thanks
Thanks again here to Mika & Peter !!
Mika,
you were spot-on !
I opened the BC into service position and indeed the CD unit was out-of-level. In fact, the front right rubber bush, sitting within the damping spring was twisted /deformed and partly brittle. This stopped the 2mm locating thread from seating down and probably affected the damping. That corner of the unit was also Ca. 2mm higher than the other 3. TBO I'm surprised it played at-all ?
I sparingly oiled the parts you recommended, realigned the rubber bush (I guess I should replace it) eased the whole unit down into proper place and reassembled the BC.
Fazit:
Although there is still some whistle / squeal from the spindle it's tolerable and only noticeable when I stand directly in-front of the BC.
All in all a success.
Grateful thanks and further successes to you (and Peter)
kindest regards
Thanks to you for posting the outcome! It may help somebody else in the future as well.
I have two Beocenters of this series, and they both make a little noise (zip-zip-zip...) while the CD is spinning. I doubt they were completely silent even when new, the door doesn't offer much sound insulation compared to more conventional front loading CD decks.
