sounds like you have a surround sound set-up as your major preference - is that right ?

and that the 9000 has become an add-on

was the 9000 ever connected to the BV10 ?

do you still have a substantial CD collection you want  play around the house, or have you already converted it to digital music files ? if so, where are they stored and in what format ?

how difficult will it be for wireless to work in this old house ? is it lathe and plaster or solid brick or perhaps solid stone ?

which speakers would you use on the three floors ? seems you will need to buy some more ?

so lots of questions - and maybe just a few answers to start to steer you in the right direction

for the moment, the Playmaker approach may be the best ... if you have enough speakers to go around.

but if all you have is the surround sound speaker set, then combinations like the BeoLit 12, the BS8 A8, the A3, and the just announced A9 may be some of the solutions

however as you read the forums you will find that sometimes people have faced challenges with their wi-fi set-ups

hence us (or me anyway) being cautious about jumping in with a pet answer !

thanks for your thoughts, you are right, my set up is a surround sound one. My dealer is trying very hard to push a BS5, but i really dont see the benefit. In particular with the Beomaster included, i dont get the point and the price becames ridiculous. I am a big fan of Bang and Olufsen, and for more than 10yrs a fairly significant customer, but there are limits to pricing...maybe if somebody could explain better the value of BS5...still.

Elephant asked all the necessary questions about your system and the way you / your wife intend to use
new digital media as well as the old ones.

Some answers are required.

Best way to find out the value of a BS5 for yourself would be using it for some time - maybe over a weekend ...

i agree, my doubts were generalised not specific to Elephant, i am very appreciative of his feedback and questions.

i will not buy more speakers, i will get a BS8 for portability into other rooms. i will have to take your advice and see if my dealer lets me borrow a BS5, i will get back to you guys.

thanks,

P.S the Beomaster, what benefit does it have over a media server?

TDB since you have what is probably the Worlds BEST and nicest TV ever, do you have an Apple TV box which with your amazing loudspeakers would work amazing for your iTunes collection?

With the reliability and worldwide standard of iTunes, I can't see why anyone should spend 5k on the BS5.  BS8/A8 is a wonderful idea. You have a similar system to Moxxey, I think we need him here for his opinion as he indeed owned a BS5 for a short period of time.   Maybe the Beo6 shows cover art but let's be honest, an iPhone does that when streaming content from iTunes or iTunes on your laptop.

@TDB,

Given what you said you want, simple, wireless, for 3 floors, for wife...my choice would be keep the 9000 or not, get a Spotify account, a device to play it, and cable connect it to a BeoLit 12 in the color of your choice.
