Turntable Model 5773

Hi All,

I have a 5773 with no cartridge. I am willing to pay the $200 or so to get a cartridge, but wanted to check out the turntable to make sure it is working before investing money into it.

The turntable powers up and when it is queued to play, the platter spins and the arm moves over to wear the start of a LP would be, but does not drop.

I am wondering if the reason why it doesn't drop is because it lacks the cartridge weight?

Also, if that is the issue, what would be the proper checkout. There is probably some anti-skating mechanisms and other things going on that I do not understand that may preclude me from determining if the turntable functions.
