After many years in storage I have connected my Beogram 1600 record player,Beocord 1900 cassette and Beomaster1900-2 amplifyer together and although each item appears to be working there is almost no sound coming from the speakers. All of the equipment was purchase new in the early 1980,s except for the amp to speaker leads which were purchased more recently from a B and O shop.Has anybody any suggestions as to what is wrong ? Brian
Hi Brian,
The problem with your Beomaster 1900 amplifier/receiver is very common....old age.Due to the age of the electrolytic capacitors inside they are now failing. I find most of them to be 40% to 150% out of tolerance. The Beomaster 1900 design allows for 20% tolerances on those typically. As the capacitors fail out of tolerance they no longer perform their function properly in the circuit and you start seeing poor behavior by the receiver.Replace all of the electrolytic capacitors and your Beomaster 1900 will be like new again. I do caution you that there are a total of 75 capacitors that I normally replace so there are quite a few. In addition, there are a couple of other restoration tasks you should do during the restoration. Namely check, clean and possibly repair the Bass, Treble and Balance controls. Replace the lights in the Beomaster with new ones. If the lights still work you can leave them if you are doing the work yourself and want to come back later and replace them when they fail. I usually replace them while I have the Beomaster opened up for service so I don't have to come back later and do it.

What sonavor just said. - And replace the idle current trimmers and set them according to the servicemanual - do one at a time.

Thank you. Have you any idea how much the system is worth as it is?

I am afraid not. Research for "sold" items on Ebay of comparable condition and state. That will give you a ballpark value.
So you come to us for a repair because you want to sell your gear?
Will we ever see you after that?
Mmm...
