Hello
This is probably a silly question and you will have a good giggle. I was wondering, would it be possible to convert an ancient Beovision Avant TV into a Smart TV with a SCART to HDMI converter then attach a streaming device to the streaming box and have internet on the TV ? The thing is this TV is in perfect condition being at my holiday home, we don't even use it really in fact (except it's the central hub to the music system) and I'd hate to get rid of it, it still looks great in our living room.
Thanks
Nathalie
Sure you can do that - I did that once with an AppleTV.
However, do not expect that the picture quality will be more than tolerable.
But with the ATV you would gain Airplay support for music, if that is wanted.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks MM, so basically I could just buy an Apple TV box and connect it. Will look into this avenue further
Thanks again
I did that with a HDMI to SCART convertor box from Amazon, In addition to that the Avant had AppleTV in the STB controller menu so I could plug it in and use the Beo4 for everything. This was on as Series 3 appleTV, so not sure if it would still do that with the latest AppleTV.
The picture and sound was more than good enough.
Thanks I appreciate the advice
I made my Beocenter 1 TV into a smart TV using a FireTV ( could use a Fire Stick) I used a cheap converter and a Flirc to control it with the PUC. It was a very good setup. I installed KODI on the FireTV.
I used this

I have a Sony Playstation 3 for this purpose. It has the streaming services I use (Netflix and few others) and you can get a component cable that provides the highest resolution the Avant 32 can process. There is a Danish company that makes a product called the RE-BL that let's you control the PS3 with a Beo4, but you need the right PUC from B&O (I'm still trying to get the PUC installed). It works great. A little fiddly getting the resolution part figured out at first. And the PS3 can play Bluray, which my DVD 1 can't. I previously used a Nintendo WII, but they stopped supporting streaming. I think Sony will continue to support streaming for a long time, but there is no guarantee.

^ I used to use a PS3 with my BV3-32 and had good results. I think I still have my RE-BL in a box somewhere. My PUC table included the RE-BL - the PUC table was version 4.25 if that's any help. In fact, I still have the STB-C module because I removed it before scrapping the TV.
Nice one, funny's enough i also have a Beocenter 1 at another place and also may want to convert it depending on success

My Beocenter 1 setup worked really well. The picture was as good as you will get on any CRT TV using SCART sockets, so there is no reason it won't work as well using your Avant. I did use the same setup on my Beovison 5 before I sold it and that too, worked really well.
With the FireTV (and FireStick) it was easy to control it using FLIRC and the PUC (atually it is a STB Controller on the older TVs). I chose one that was already in the TV and taught that to the FLIRC and it just worked! I think it was ATV from memory.
Well it took me a year to get around to organise this but am getting no sound. I got an Amazon Fire Stick, checked the videos and tried the different sound settings but no luck. There are 3 scart ports at the back of the Avant and used the one which responds to V. Tape, couldn't get the other sockets working. Am using a simple HDMI to SCART converter. Am also getting a message to say am using an unsupported hdmi hub. Tried PAL and NTC on the converter. Am getting the image so something at least is working.... I think it was not meant to be for me

Could that be the problem?
Do you have another TV (with HDMI connectors) to see if the Firestick is set up correctly and outputting sound.
