Hello,

I bought a pair of Beolab 20 last year and was offered to update the firmware for about 400 usd by my B&O stores support team. A bit expensive I’d say. Considering I can update my iPhone, my macs and everything else in my life for free..

I thought that the speakers would update over WISA but apparently not. They seemingly do update though if I would have been using a transmitter one. I don’t need one because I use my BeoVision Avant with it’s built in wisa transmitter.

Don’t really understand why B&O chose to support firmware upgrade only via the transmitter one and not TV sets with the same feature. Or why they charge outrageous amounts for sending a small firmware file of a few megabytes to the speakers.

I am now seriously considering buying a transmitter one only to upgrade the firmware. I’ve had a few drop out issues with wisa - mainly that one of the speakers won’t turn on (something I easily miss if I start watching a movie that starts quietly). The 20s power led turns off completely when on so if I don’t catch the few seconds of turning on light then I can’t say for sure if they are on proberly without going to them and holding my ear next to them or check the menu in the tv.

Any other 20s owners here and how did you upgrade yours?

I have also considered buying a transmitter 1 to update my 2 1/2 year old 20s. Last year I looked in to it and was told that the updates that were available at that time would be of no benefit to me.

Not exactly related, but I'll take any excuse I can get to complain about B&Os ridiculous service charges and hidden costs:

I was quoted about £600 (about $1000 before Brexit trashed the economy) for delivering a BV 14, setting it up and taking away the boxes (which I'm sure are reused/resold).  Needless to say I didn't bother.

@Michael, in order to process the update to your BL20 do you need to OWN a transmitter 1 or would it work with any?

I am not so tech saffy , but you’re welcome to borrow my transmitter 1 if that would be of help.

I don’t think so but it has to be paired to the speakers (which is easily done I think). Very kind of you but I’m located in Sweden and you probably somewhere else? I could ask my retailer if they may have one.

I wonder what they mean by that. Either that you already have the latest firmware or that they don’t think it added/fixed enough for the cost of the service? Either way I’d say it’s a bit unusual when companies don’t think new firmware is beneficial Smile

Ah really? Yes I am. And I live there too! But it would be a hassle to disconnect his speakers and then program it for mine and then back. I think.
